Has the government got paid posters here to quash any dissenting voices?

There's always been robust discussions on politics on mn, but I've noticed lately when ever someone questions the government's track record on covid, certain posters pop up with very similar agendas, defending them to the hilt and trying to throw the discussion round to something else.

I'd like to see when posters actually joined mn, some newer posters must spend all their time on here defending the indefensible.

Obviously, not suggesting that everyone posting in support of government policies is some kind of organised activist!

effingterrified · 13/05/2020 22:16

claig was paid - she disappeared the second the referendum vote was over, never to return.

But she was also value for money and I enjoyed her posts - and wasted far too long arguing the toss with her!

This bunch of paid shills are cheap and frankly crap at it - really obvious.

The solution is twofold:

  1. Ignore all their threads. If you respond on them, it just pushes that up onto the top of the front page again.
  1. Start your own genuine threads to ensure discussion isn't dominated by fake threads.
ITonyah · 13/05/2020 22:17

The amount of Momentum bs on here before the GE was so boring

effingterrified · 13/05/2020 22:19

And yes, ssd, afraid they've decided this thread isn't going to go away if they ignore it so have started trying (ineffectually) to fight back.

Maybe we should have a shill bingo. A point for every time they try to change the topic, post a misleading link, etc.

Maybe a drinking game for the weekend? Wine

MunchMunch · 13/05/2020 22:20

Can anyone remember about 10 years ago where I'm positive Boris used to post on here and either a mistress or wife would also post and something about a cat? I'm sure I'm not making it up GrinHmm

As for paid posters - Yup!

effingterrified · 13/05/2020 22:21

Suppose we shouldn't be surprised that Dominic Cummings' paid shills are as shite as his testing policy and his Brexit policy.

Everything he does is cheap and shite.

FinnefanFox · 13/05/2020 22:22

Go back and tell Boris he won't win the fight with the parents no matter what spin they put on it, Wealth before Health is the Tory mantra, I despise them.

ITonyah · 13/05/2020 22:23

I think some of you spend too much time on here.

excitedmumtobe87 · 13/05/2020 22:24

@effingterrified Sounds good to me!

FourTeaFallOut · 13/05/2020 22:26

I think some of you spend too much time on here.

How many times have you posted on this thread alone @ITonyah?

ITonyah · 13/05/2020 22:28

I haven't been here long enough to believe that anyone who deviates from the Mumsnet propaganda is a paid plant. Thank goodness.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 22:29

Claig was here years before the referendum effing - was she planted years before just in case? utter tosh.

@TheHoneyBadger pretty sure schools are cleaned daily never noticed my kids school as being filthy - are you dear? I'm entirely sure they're not (I work in one) and that domestic ideas of 'cleaned' and school budget ideas of, 'cleaned' are vastly different. Happy to elaborate if you need me to but given your username you might shit your pants if forced to face the reality of hygiene in british schools

ssd · 13/05/2020 22:31

Did claig not change course?
I always thought he or she was left wing, then they became a mad trump supporter.

OP posts:
runrunrunrunt · 13/05/2020 22:34

Absolutely. If our government were even half as good at governing as they are at manipulating social media we'd live in a eutopia!

altmum · 13/05/2020 22:35

Op, I fully agree with you, would be great if you submit a FOI request, they would have to admit it.

effingterrified · 13/05/2020 22:35

WAs she? Only ever remember her as a Brexiter, but yes, I guess a Trumper too.

I actually miss her. She was quite astute and always good humoured.

Not like these rude cheap shills they have these days.

effingterrified · 13/05/2020 22:38

And glad you said he or she for claig, ssd. I think in my head claig was probably male. Just didn't sound very female, although that is obviously the MN default.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 22:39

claig was right unashamedly right wing from the start - nothing inconsistent in her supporting trump no matter how bizarre some of us might think supporting trump is.

My memories of discussions/battles Smile with her are from at least 5 or 6 years before brexit.

kissmewherethesundontshine · 13/05/2020 22:40

I don't really understand why it's crazy to assume political parties have people testing the water on things with MN, and how the GE outcome has anything to do with that? My personal social media was full of pro tories and the same people are now saying government have ballsed up, just like some who hate the tories think he would have struggled to do much differently, I am sick of seeing that stupid post of him with his head in his hands bollocks that's been circulating though, he wanted the job he's got the job so time to earn his money Grin

Bartlet · 13/05/2020 22:40

It’s the old lefty liberal bubble effect coming back.

When people here and on social media in general were genuinely astonished (I was one of them) when the country voted for brexit as they didn’t know anyone who did. Then when BoJo won the GE convincingly. If you’d been an outside observer who only got their political commentary/ opinions from Mumsnet you’d have thought that Corbyn would have smashed it.

Newsflash. Just because people don’t think like you, it doesn’t mean that they’re paid political activists

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 22:41

claig was female. I'm now doubting my own memory and worrying i've mixed her up with another poster who was a right wing lone voice on fwr back in maybe 2009-2011? Most definitely way before brexit and not a single issue poster

TheHoneyBadger · 13/05/2020 22:44

People were astonished I voted for Brexit despite spending my whole life being anti centralised power and all about keeping power as close to the stakeholders as possible. It didn't matter what my lifelong consistent logic was that led to me not agreeing with an ever closer superstate people could not get their heads around the fact that I wasn't old, stupid or racist yet somehow wanted to leave Europe.

I feel like I've now stuck a target on my back for being called an old, stupid racist.

effingterrified · 13/05/2020 22:48

TheHoneyBadger - how do you know claig was female? Confused

crustycrab · 13/05/2020 22:52

claig is still here.

PinkyAndTheBrian · 13/05/2020 22:52

Not sure they’d need paid stooges.
Plenty of apparently intelligent people think the government isn’t a complete shitshow, believe we shouldn’t be in lockdown and that if people die so what.
