There has also been significant mismanagement of care homes.

Agree - they were pretty much abandoned! Staff and residents.

I used to work in elderly care and I've been utterly horrified at the mishandling there

The vitamin D issue needs addressed, either fortified as suggested or sending out supplements to everyone.

pallasathena · 13/05/2020 16:49

The female heads of state in other countries appear to have nailed it. New Zealand especially.
Here, we have a largely male, macho, jingoistic and totally bumbling approach that's resulted in a devastatingly inept response as a direct consequence.
The rest of the world looks on with sorrow, pity and bemusement.
And sadness.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 13/05/2020 16:53

Where do I start.

As an essential worker (I'm not), my employer should have given us all ppe at the beginning as they refused to furlough us. Even now they say they are following government guidelines and we need to wash our hands.
Terrible attitude.

jobhunter7 · 13/05/2020 17:41

I think I'd rather be in New Zealand right now.

Improve the health of our population now in preparation for next winter. Increase vitamin D levels with sunshine, diet and supplements. Test that men have an adequate amount of testosterone. Test that women don't have too much testosterone. Encourage and assist obese and overweight people in losing weight. Implement effective contact tracing. Reduce transmission in care homes with more PPH, agency staff working at one care home rather than circulating between several. Listen to the staff and management of care homes to find out what more they need. No hospitals to discharge patients back to a care home without a negative test.
Only essential flights from other countries and strict quarantining.

Fast, reliable, widely available testing.

Purchase a time machine, head to China and force their government to disclose that they were about to infect the planet.

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 13/05/2020 18:58

If I had a time machine I would get Corbyn to resign earlier after the election. If B Johnson et al had an effective opposition from January they wouldn't have been killing off those in care homes and got away with their other fucking mess.

He is still digging after today's PMQs

MashedPotatoBrainz · 13/05/2020 18:58

You do get msnetters from other countries - they may have suggestions as to what has worked (or not) in other nations...

We elected a government of intelligent, caring people whereas the UK elected Boris the Clown and his performing monkeys. Until you take steps to rectify this you're fucked. Sorry.

jobhunter7 · 13/05/2020 19:03

@MashedPotatoBrainz

I don't think all Brtons voted for him.

Where are you from?

We could try following WHO advice. There was loads of useful stuff in tonight's press conference about coming out of lockdown including a specific question on the UK. This should go to the right time for the UK question (52:30) but the whole thing is worth watching.

jobhunter7 · 13/05/2020 20:36

@LangClegsInSpace

Thanks for posting that.
