One kidney?

I've not been able to find much information about this online.

I have one kidney, since birth. My remaining kidney works fine, I have a blood test once a year to check function and so far no issues. I'm 37.

Does anyone know if there's anything about how covid affects those like me with a lone kidney? I haven't received any message from the dr saying I'm vulnerable or anything.

I have a kidney condition I've not been contacted either. My nephrologist said we're not in the shielding group.

We referred someone to Occupational Health regarding this same issue, they came back as not needing to stay off work.

Thank you. I wasn't really concerned until the daily fail printed something about kidneys and covid. Probably just fear mongering.

Hello, I only have one kidney. Can't find anything on this if it makes us higher risk or not. Teaching at huge sixth form, already have cases of students testing positive. Feeling a tad nervous Confused

I’m under the renal team as my kidneys aren’t functioning properly- I’m waiting for surgery and am regularly in hospital, and I don’t need to shield apparently. I’m not sure if people with kidney issues are actually more at risk- from my hospital stays over lockdown, it’s getting people into regular dialysis that seems to be the issue.

Watching with interest... I also only have one kidney, OP! The connections to kidneys had me feeling a bit nervous, too.

My work asked me to clarify if I was classed as vulnerable when lockdown started. Ive only got one functioning kidney and was told its only people with actual kidney disease - like dialysis - that needed to.

I have a friend in her 50s on the transplant list. She had a week or two in bed with COVID feeling grim but is back to normal now. It’s not an automatic death sentence.

Hello all my baby currently having ultrasounds etc as she has one kidney that doesn't function and now also looks like it's shrunk and disappeared
Can I ask as adults do you have pain/issues?
Can you remember as a child needing any special treatment?
She's only 11 weeks and this has been a worry since we were out under a specialist when I was 20 weeks pregnant

Hello, I lost the function of my right kidney as a child and scans show my left kidney is like a super kidney! I have no pain and live a completely normal life. Smile

Plus many congratulations on your baby Grin

Thank you @halfthesun that's reassuring
