They were asking advice from a lovely primary school teacher in Denmark on how the'd approached it. She was so positive and encouraging it gave me hope for our dc for the first time in ages. Worth a watch if you can.

OP posts:

I think it's about 70 people who have worked in an educational setting/capacity.

Surely this is evidence to show that there is every risk that pupils do carry the virus and potentially infect adults?

Barbie222 · 12/05/2020 23:42

@AldiAisleOfCrap that's how lessons worked when I was at primary. Without the glass, but you would not have dared touch the teacher!

neveradullmoment99 · 12/05/2020 23:42

An interesting approach but what about kids with behaviour issues? If she is behind the glass, who is with the kids?

Barbie222 · 12/05/2020 23:43

What dates @BertNErnie ? Presume that's with closure too?

DamnYankee · 12/05/2020 23:44

A PP pointed out that you all don't have the same system.
Ok.
Do any of us have the same system? We don't have the same system in the US. My state does not have the same system as a neighboring state.
No one is suggesting every step they have taken will apply everywhere. But fresh and creative ideas can create a jumping off point for many. This is how we innovate and create.
The OP is pointing out, rightly, that this is a testament to people's creative thinking skills, commitment to learning, and love of our children.

Our educators give a damn.
In a world where people are snitching on neighbors, screaming at fellow exercisers, and calling for totalitarianism (a comment here on MN. I was never so shocked!)...
this posting makes me very happy.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/05/2020 23:44

The children in other countries may be more compliant. They aren't here! There are numerous children that may take advantage of the teacher staying behind the glass.

BreconBeBuggered · 12/05/2020 23:44

I'll try to link this post from Twitter. It's a less idealistic scenario than the one OP has in mind, I think. If you don't read French, you can get the gist from the images. twitter.com/lioneltop/status/1260125365990756352

neveradullmoment99 · 12/05/2020 23:45

I don't decry these are nice ideas. I like the idea of the bubbles. Yes we can take these on board but to suggest schools go back in a few weeks is lunacy.

AldiAisleOfCrap · 12/05/2020 23:46

@neveradullmoment99 yes she did say there a few discipline issues in Switzerland compared to when she taught in the U.K. The children are young though age 7.

You would have a point if in England the teachers PoV was listened to and not derided.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 12/05/2020 23:47

My friend is a teacher in Switzerland she is teaching behind plexi glass.

In England tables are arranged in little clusters and the teacher walks around the room when the kids do their work.

It's not a teacher stays at the front with children at individual desks system that some countries have

I know it’s different I was making a point of how it was possible for some countries , but not here. She has her desk at the front . Then 15 individual desks in lines with gaps.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/05/2020 23:50

I am thankful I teach in Scotland and it looks like it wont be until August at the earliest for us. We have already had an email from our union asking us for input on way forwards to inform the Scottish Government and I am so grateful for NIcola Sturgeon. I think it is ridiculous to imagine schools could go back in such a short space of time.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/05/2020 23:51

In England.

oneteen · 12/05/2020 23:55

I can't get my head around this . 3 years are asked to be in out of 7 on June 1st but this is not possible... So if 60 children in each year 180 children are expected in out of 420...yet the school can't cope? 14 class rooms for 180 children? Can teachers who teach yr 2,3,4 and 5 not teach year 1? I make it 13 children per class..

ineedaholidaynow · 12/05/2020 23:58

@oneteen who will be remotely teaching Y2,3,4 and 5 if their teachers are teaching the additional groups which are currently in school?

BreconBeBuggered · 12/05/2020 23:59

I assume the children of key workers from other year groups are still at school, which presumably means at least one other teacher and classroom, before the rest are divvied up.

oneteen · 13/05/2020 00:01

Poor you @neverdullmoment... Just be thankful for the UK treasury and the furlough scheme... Scotland will be bust come October.. Sadly..

neveradullmoment99 · 13/05/2020 00:01

Can teachers who teach yr 2,3,4 and 5 not teach year 1? I make it 13 children per class.

Teachers don't jump in and out of year groups. They start and finish with one particular year so if that is what you mean, the answer is no. There would be no consistency.

What about in an infant school?

2 years out of three to come back. 90 per year, 9 classrooms. 180 children in 9 classrooms.

But only 6 available teachers.

And that’s for 2 weeks only, until the rest of the school need to be back in.

oneteen · 13/05/2020 00:03

@ineedaholidaynow are you remotely teaching all teaching hours.. Parents are stating they are?

neveradullmoment99 · 13/05/2020 00:05

Perhaps @oneteen, alongside England and an ailing population amidst a second wave and an overwhelmed and stretched nhs.

neveradullmoment99 · 13/05/2020 00:05

Good luck to you!

BertNErnie · 13/05/2020 00:11

@Barbie222 it says up to April 20th but doesn't say the initial date. I would assume it's prob from the date we first started recording 50 deaths?

ineedaholidaynow · 13/05/2020 00:11

Oh and @oneteen who will be delivering food hampers to PP children who are at home, because that has now been added to the jobs to be done by teachers and all the welfare checks that will still need to be done for those not in school?
