When will you let your cleaner return?

My lovely cleaner is desperate to come back to work. I've been paying her the full amount as I don't want her to be out of pocket but she's embarrassed and really wants to work.

Under the latest advice, it seems that people who can't work from home are being encouraged to return to work. But that doesn't mean it's any safer for her to come to us.

At what point would you do it?

We are still paying ours. She can come back whenever she is ready.

eurochick · 13/05/2020 22:31

Mine has been asking to come back for weeks even though we have been paying her in full. We have said next week. We will distance from her in the house. We've both been working at home since mid March, only going out to the supermarket and for exercise. She doesn't travel here by public transport. So the risks are pretty low on either side.

GetTheSprinkles · 13/05/2020 22:40

Came back last week. Oh, how she has been missed !

alphabetspagetti · 13/05/2020 22:52

Mine is coming on Friday. She usually does the ironing & changes the beds amongst other tasks but I have asked her not to do that.

Vargas · 13/05/2020 23:00

She texted me today, keen to get back to work. So she'll probably come back next week at some point. Thankfully she drives. I'm not sure I'd want her back yet, or if she would want to be back yet, if she had to use public transport.

Mine returns next week

Her employer has sent me details of precautions to be taken

bathsh3ba · 14/05/2020 13:11

Ours came back last week. Cleans on a different floor to where we are, wears gloves and we're never in the same room at the same time. Low risk area. Frankly I'd rather be exposed to some germs myself than live in a vacuum.

DinoGreen · 14/05/2020 13:14

Mine is coming back the last week of May - I can’t wait. DH and DS will go out for the duration of the time she is here. I will shut myself in the office and she won’t clean in there.

Honeyroar · 14/05/2020 13:16

I’d think a lot of jobs done by a cleaner involved a lot of soap and water or anti bac, so she probably isn’t going to have many germs on her. Avoiding jobs like bed changing and ironing is perhaps prudent. So I’d probably wait until June but be thinking about it.

PhilSwagielka · 14/05/2020 14:53

When they're OK with it. I use a local cleaning company. I'm having trouble coping but I don't want them coming over unless they feel safe to do so.

MinnieMountain · 14/05/2020 14:57

Ours is back next week. DH will stay in his office, the rest of us will go out.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/05/2020 15:02

I opened all the windows before she came. Ventilation is starting to look key in avoiding virus spread.

Mine came back yesterday! It was so good to see her and know she's ok.

I've been paying her throughout and she asked to come back. DH took DCs for a long walk and I stayed on the opposite floor working. We opened the windows and the back door to get some air flowing. She wore gloves and is cleaning where she works anyway.

I'm sorry to say my impression that I'd done an ok job the past few months was quickly corrected. Was lovely to have a properly clean house rather than mine and DH!/ (substandard) efforts.

Nacreous · 16/05/2020 08:25

Mine has been working throughout as it was her job so she was allowed to come. I have been out at work all the time she's come, and I said she didn't have to come if she didn't want to - she said all her other clients have cancelled.

It's maintained my sanity, and I am very grateful.

alphabetspagetti · 16/05/2020 21:56

Mine also came back. Stayed twice as long as usual having come to find me after 2hrs to tell me my house was very dirty! I thought we'd done a pretty good job of keeping on top of things! It did look amazing when she left and it was so good to have it all clean at the same time.
We were upstairs whilst she was downstairs and then in the garden whilst she was downstairs. She wore gloves & came in wearing a mask but it looked so uncomfortable doing manual work that I said not to bother. We had all of the doors & windows open.

mrsbyers · 16/05/2020 21:59

Anytime ! I can’t wait to have her back

Frazzled2207 · 16/05/2020 22:02

Ours came back last week and was very happy to. We went out while she was here.

firawla · 17/05/2020 01:31

Mine also started back this week, similar situation as you OP I had been paying anyway but she was keen to come back

VimtoCordial · 17/05/2020 02:21

Some of you have mentioned your cleaner not changing sheets, what about cleaning bathrooms?

bumbleymummy · 17/05/2020 02:28

Cleaners have been allowed to work throughout. As long as none of you are having symptoms and can maintain social distancing while she’s in the house then she can return as soon as you both feel comfortable.

OhTheRoses · 17/05/2020 02:43

Mine came on Tuesday and Friday. She wore a mask and we socially distanced.

caringcarer · 17/05/2020 02:55

I am going to contact my cleaner by text and ask if she can come again at beginning of June, when kids go back to school. I will sit in conservatory and dh is wfh in spare bedroom and will pay by bank transfer.

caringcarer · 17/05/2020 02:59

I am giving myself 2 weeks to tidy and clean before she comes back. With child home from school and adult ds furloughed, dh wfh it has got untidy.

wirelessprinter · 17/05/2020 08:31

Ours came back this week. We stayed out of her way and she took extra hygiene precautions.
