Just curious as Boris wouldn’t mention it as Rishi is talking about it tomorrow, what do you think he will say?
FWIW I am not furloughed but am purely speculating on what might be said.

Some saying maybe extension to sept at 60% but let’s wait and see...

esjee · 11/05/2020 17:15

I'm hoping its along the lines of going back full time if possible and company pays part and rest is topped up by govt. I fear it will just be part time furloughing and I can't afford to live on a part time wage. Of course this is assuming I still have a job!

FabulouslyElegantTits · 11/05/2020 19:54

I'll be grateful for anything our main wage comes from the tourism industry, half furlough is better than redundancy for us

Dadnotamum72 · 11/05/2020 20:05

Hopefully part time furloughing still at 80% for the bit furloughed then firms that can't fully get people back can get them back part time.
So if your full time and go back 3 days a week the other 2 days are furloughed so the whole wage is 92% paid.

That it is now the law that people with children under the age of 8 who are trying desperately to work from home whilst caring for said children must be furloughed for as long as necessary and in any event until the schools go back full time.

Hey, I can dream....

Pipandmum · 11/05/2020 20:09

That it will be extended for two months or so but at 60%. My son has just been made redundant today - as it's not costing the firm anything wish they had delayed it a month!

Lazypuppy · 11/05/2020 20:11

@WelcomeToTheNorth i don't want it to be law/mandatory!!

TheoriginalLEM · 11/05/2020 20:12

Dadnotamum that is what I saw somewhere on internet. I'm furloughed from essential.business that is only providing emergency care. So back part time rest furloughed would be good for me.

If they stop the furlough now I'll be at risk of redundancy.

After yesterday's debacle I am not hopefully Sad

Bflatmajorsharp · 11/05/2020 20:12

There will be talk about 'weaning people off' furlough as though people have chosen it and are at risk of becoming work-shy layabout benefit scroungers.

The amount paid will be reduced as an 'incentive' to 'get people back to work' (ignoring the fact that there aren't jobs to go back to).

People in white collar jobs will be able to continue to wfh, and those less economically privileged will be forced to sit on crowded public transport and work in places where social distancing isn't possible, or work in largely unsafe conditions.

HTH.

TheoriginalLEM · 11/05/2020 20:12

*hopeful

WelcomeToTheNorth · 11/05/2020 20:13

lazypuppy I do, selfishly!! Only way my employer will give me it (and couldn’t justify penalising me for it later!!)

MarshaBradyo · 11/05/2020 20:13

Winding it down.

MabelMoo23 · 11/05/2020 20:15

I think it will be extended to end of August at 60%.

So remain at 80% until June, then 2 more months at 60%

Comefromaway · 11/05/2020 20:19

I hope it will allow employers more flexibility to offer employed some hours rather than furlough have to be a minimum of 3 weeks.

For example we have workers who normally work 40 hours per week. An emergency job came in and we had to unfurlough someone 1 days work then another day came in a week later.

AhGoGo · 11/05/2020 21:05

I like to pop on to these threads and remind people a vast amount of people on furlough are on minimum wage. 60% of minimum wage...! (Usual deductions as well). We have no job because our job is just gone. This idea we are workshy and therefore should be financially punished is horrific.
