So all those who cannot work from home are now going back to work and all kids back at school before the summer??

What do we think of the 50 page guidance that has been released?

Surely all children wont be back for a month before the holidays and how come all workers are now expected back? How does that help keep the R below 1??

They certainly aren't consulting heads or LAs - no pre information or consultation has been done. It's insane

Our headteacher is being driven crazy by it all. Each announcement answers one question, but provides a dozen others.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 11/05/2020 15:32

Can anyone link to the 50 page document? Can't find it anywhere.

lemonsandlimes123 · 11/05/2020 15:34

looking further down the guidance they are going to give us a whole 48 HOURS notice if those children are returning on 1st June so by my reckoning that means schools not knowing until the Friday of half term whether or not they are expected to have children in on the Monday. So when exactly do we convey the plans to parents? Before half term but with the caveat this might not happen?

Appuskidu · 11/05/2020 15:39

Im not sure that will happen all the reports on the document on the news keep saying they will return for a month before the summer, no mention of this being part time.Plus wouldn't that be slightly pointless as it would only be at most 8 days out of the month if they went 2 days a week for a month. It doesn't seem worthwhile at all.

They are a complete shambles but I honestly don’t believe that EVEN our government would be the only country in the whole of Europe with a death rate this high, to allow full schools of primary children (and associated staff, parents and traffic) to come back in June for a whole month of teaching, just forgetting about social distancing.

And yes, it will be slightly pointless and not worthwhile at all.

Herd immunity and second wave, here we come. Thank you, Boris.

BertNErnie · 11/05/2020 15:58

As usual schools will have to interpret the information given and decide for themselves what to do.

I'd be very very surprised if any of the other year groups not mentioned explicitly in the guidance are seen before the summer. The key is in the wording - "if feasible" I imagine lots of schools are going to say it isn't.

I am also interested as the guidance also says those year groups asked to return to school will be coming back in 'smaller sizes' so those expecting to have their children in for a full week from 1st June will be surprised as I don't think in many schools a full time timetable will happen either. At best, I think we will see a part time version of schooling until Sept and potentially beyond.

We are waiting for the details from the DFE due out soon.

Does anyone know if these are due out today?

BertNErnie · 11/05/2020 16:01

In answer to the part time question, the exact working states:

● A phased return for early years settings and schools. Schools should prepare to begin to open for more children from 1 June.

The Government expects children to be able to return to early years settings, and for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 to be back in school in smaller sizes, from this point.

This aims to ensure that the youngest children, and those preparing for the transition to secondary school, have maximum time with their teachers. Secondary schools and further education colleges should also prepare to begin some face to face contact with Year 10 and 12 pupils who have key exams next year, in support of their continued remote, home learning.

The Government’s ambition is for all primary school children to return to school before the summer for a month if feasible, though this will be kept under review.

The Department of Education will engage closely with schools and early years providers to develop further detail and guidance on how schools should facilitate this.

BertNErnie · 11/05/2020 16:03

It's due today:

I took this from the DFE Twitter post last night:

As confirmed by the Prime Minister this evening, we are asking education and childcare settings to prepare to open for more children from 1 June.

We will publish further guidance setting out more information for early years, schools and colleges tomorrow

GrimmsFairytales · 11/05/2020 16:03

Does anyone know if these are due out today?

I don't believe so.

BertNErnie · 11/05/2020 16:10

@GrimmsFairytales it's due today. Whether or not we get it will be a different story...

GrimmsFairytales · 11/05/2020 16:13

Whether or not we get it will be a different story...

Quite. I suspect not, but others within my school remain optimistic. Grin

Lumene · 11/05/2020 16:17

Thanks all.

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and was told to stay home from work last week as I'm 28 weeks but I'm not working from home I've just been told to stay home due to being vulnerable and I work in a hospital pharmacy. Do I have to return to work now? I'm so confused

Pipandmum · 11/05/2020 16:23

Our school (still open for a out 40 key worker kids) is planning now what to do. Schools shouldn't wait, but start now.
Boris has just said that if there are still childcare problems in regards to people returning to work that is a legitimate impediment to the 'go to work if you can'. Don't forget those last three words.

TinySleepThief · 11/05/2020 16:31

go to work if you can

The problem is some employers will simply expect their staff to come in despite whether or not they have issues pertaining to childcare.

The true reality is that quite a few people, women specifically, will lose their jobs because they lack any form of childcare especially if yr 2,3,4 and 5 dont go back because the level doesn't go down enough.

We're trying to plan. However, until 2pm we only had Boris' speech to go off of. Then the new plan was released. Which is a little clearer, but still doesn't give us much more information to be able to plan with.

Lumene · 11/05/2020 18:48

Still no sign of more detailed guidance?

BertNErnie · 12/05/2020 12:52

The school guidance came out yesterday at about 7:15pm
