Daughter needs to move out of student house this month - can I drive her there?

Student DD moved back home with us before the lockdown but left most of her belongings at her student house. Her tenancy runs out at the end of the month so she will need to go back at some point to clear her room. Would we be allowed to drive there? It's about 60 miles away so we could do the journey without stopping anywhere on the way, but I am aware there is always a slight risk of breaking down, punctures etc. She'd need to stay for a day or two to pack everything and clean up so I'd have to do the journey twice.
Would we be ok to do this? Or should we wait a bit longer? We want to do the right thing but it's confusing.

If the lease is due to expire then you will be discharging a legal obligation, which is and always was allowed under the rules, including in Wales. (I'm in the same situation.)

slippery - just go and get your daughter. Get your timing right - don't head there on a sunny weekend day when the beach is full. Take paperwork with you that shows she has to leave her accommodation to give to the police in the very unlikely chance you are challenged.

I'm in the same position as slipperywhensparticus
Due to collect DS1 from Cardiff this Thursday (he's self funding, all his work has gone and he's run out of money). Half expecting to be turned round at the border and/or fined.

We usually stay overnight when we go to Cardiff but going to do it in a day with 2 drivers

DS1 has now been repatriated to England without problem.
I didn't see a single police car the whole journey (M4 from the M25 junction going to Cardiff and return)
I suspect it helped going mid week and driving in Wales during slightly busier periods (08.15 - 09.00 and 16.00- 16.45)

My DS is staying in his university city until his lease expires (end of Aug) and then we will collect him, unless he's decided to do a Masters there and moves into halls.

We have moved DD's stuff now. Luckily her housemates were all elsewhere so she had a very quiet weekend all on her own. We had to drive through Wales on the motorway for part of the journey but all was fine. I suspect the police are more concerned with stopping people going to beauty spots or beaches in Wales. Glad to hear others managed ok too.

Even if they're in Wales just go. If I met an officious police officer I'd just say give me the fine and I'll get it overturned.

Glad those on this thread seem to have got in and out of Wales without any problems. To be honest I think they were more worried about people from Cardiff going to Porthcawl than someone from England going to Cardiff.
