I don't want to go back to work

Why would I? I'm one of the lucky ones, wfh with a very reduced workload and no real fear of job insecurity. Getting back into a routine to do a proper job again is going to take some getting used to.

However I know the country needs to do "something" to get back in its feet. I know with so many people dependant on the state, we can't carry on like this, I know that the poverty that will follow will cause immeasurable hardship (and loss of life) and that only worsens the longer it continues.

Despite enjoying my life atm, I'm not going to argue that restrictions need to stay in place indefinitely to preserve it.

I do wonder how many of the people insisting that we need to stay as we were are in a similar happy position to me?

I don’t want to go back in to work, I can WFH efficiently without ever going in, it’s all about weak managers wanting bums on seats and a physical entity to bully. I am suffering with terrible anxiety about going out and mixing with people and haven’t been out to shops since mid March & could keep going on my prepped supplies for a lot longer (standard pantry stock is 3-6month supply for all my adult life, not panic bought in one go) yesterday’s announcement made me feel so sick and panicky and I KNOW I am going to have to get my shit together at some point .. really struggling and feeling pathetic and mentally very weak

Both DH & I have lost our jobs and are still on the cautious side regarding relaxing restrictions despite the personal financial cost

I also know quite a few others like us who have the financial downside but are not keen for lockdown to be relaxed yet.

IMO the numbers of new cases each day at the moment means we'll have a second wave quite quickly. We haven't reduced the number of new cases to anything like the level of other countries that are coming out of (stricter) lockdowns.

It would be good to understand what the guidance says about becoming a Covid secure work place, depending on your industry, and seeing evidence that employers have put the guidance into practice. Once the measures are in place, that's the time to start getting employees back in. I think that would give me more confidence in going back into an office environment.

wheresmymojo do you not worry about when you’ll be able to work again? I think your attitude is amazing, I wish I could adopt it but I’m struggling. I don’t want lockdown to end prematurely (what’s the point, the economy still won’t be in a great place if mass amounts of the workforce are off ill) but I’m feeling very impatient.

I'd love to never go to work again, but I cannot afford that life. I'd rather go back immediately and keep my job, but keeping my job may not be an option. I've no idea what the end of furlough will bring in my company.

I don't want to go back to work. I wfh, full pay. I can do my job permanently from home. However, I would go back in a heartbeat if I thought it was safe to do so. This societal stagnation is not good for any of us. Living like this is not healthy. I fear living in this limbo more than I fear getting the virus.

The repercussions from this are huge. We will be living with the threat of contagion for a long time. Social distancing will become the norm rather than a temporary thing. The economy will take a massive downturn, redundancies high, crime will soar. Our shattered faith in politicians and the media is probably irreparably broken. It wasn't great because of BREXIT but this has been the cherry on the cake. I fear for mental health, domestic abuse and suicides.

All we can do is take one day at a time and hope that a vaccine is found. We also need a new wave of politicians to take us forward.

I've lost my job. So I would be glad to get back to work. I need to find a job and I'd be happy to take the job if someone who has decided they'd rather stay at home. I've lost everything I've worked for.
