Surely if they are testing at the rate they say they are and the family you want to see are not vulnerable/isolating it should be allowed?

A lot of people seem to be treating it like they're teenagers and Boris is their dad who's grounded them.

'Fuck you Boris, I will give coronavirus to my elderly mother!! That'll learn ya'.

Boris Johnson does not care if your family die or are really ill itisasecret, but you should. Even if he phones you, in person, tonight and says 'have a lovely birthday, have your family round'. You still shouldn't.

Quarantined Teachers have not been 'called back to work', they have been in work this whole time teaching key worker children. I agree they (we) are not all heroes and don't know any teachers who consider themselves such. Incidentally, as a part time teacher I have worked over my contracted hours every week and taught for no pay for two days in the Easter holidays.

StrawberryBlondeStar · 10/05/2020 21:33

@user1471448556 and I think lots of posters are getting fed up of any criticism/question to a teacher being put down as “teacher bashing”. Why is it “teacher bashing” to query why someone who have a giant birthday party if they were worried about being exposed to a virus? Why is it “teacher bashing” to flag up lots of individuals are working in occupations with people who have Coronavirus and we haven’t being having parties (in fact many have moved out of their own homes to avoid even infecting their families).

HeffalumpsCantDance · 10/05/2020 21:34

I’m happy to go back to school Quarantined, but I’d like a cattle prod. Just to help with the social distancing for Y6. Because they sure as fuck won’t keep their distance, wash hands properly, manage not to need the toilet every 30 minutes or stop coughing on staff. The police have tasers, so I’d like something similar.
Rather than bleating ‘Please stop licking the desk’

Quarantined · 10/05/2020 21:37

@user1471468296 more fool you then, they've taken advantage of you!

The overwhelming majority of teachers I know have had to do extremely little work during this time. A lot of them have not even had to take a turn going into school for one day to provide cover for key worker children. Most of them are doing minimal work online, a little bit of google classroom or zoom here and there. Some are doing nothing more than teaching their own children which the rest of us have to try and do while working from home. Others are drinking tea and watching Netflix.

The exceptions I know are private school teachers, who are being expected to deliver a full teaching programme, and teachers/support staff in special schools where every student has an EHCP so they're carrying on BAU.

So please don't claim that all teachers are working and haven't stopped all this time. That's not the reality for most, and I maintain that teachers are in the best position out of any group of workers.

itsgettingweird · 10/05/2020 21:38

But you aren't getting on a packed tube. They made it clear that social distancing would still be happening and therefore limited capacity which is why if you are now travelling to work and cannot walk, cycle or drive he's said to be aware of this.

And we need to open the economy. Working will be fleeting time by someone with 2m difference. Same as in shops etc.
Visiting family is not fleeting. And it isn't starting the economy which has to be a priority.

Pomegranatepompom · 10/05/2020 21:38

Well it the R rate increases they’ll need to change the school opening plan, he’s already said this. I think as some teachers have had contact with key worker children, if they were super spreaders this would be very apparent in cases with tracking. It doesn’t seem to be the case.

Quarantined · 10/05/2020 21:43

@HeffalumpsCantDance a cattle prod 😂

I think you'll be fine without. Children are not spreading this disease.

I'm very glad to hear that there are some teachers who are happy to return to school.

itsgettingweird · 10/05/2020 21:44

From what I understand even when schools open the 3 year groups teaching will be spread across the staff. So year 6 in 2 form school will be split say into 4 classes. 4 teachers per day. So 2-3 days a week dependent on TA and HLTA etc. Small increase to work and some WFH. They have to do this because guidelines say only be in work if you have to.

pooiepooie25 · 10/05/2020 21:45

Quarantined - ffs just fuck off with your shitty teacher bashing. It's beyond tedious and just blatant lies. Come and do our job, in normal times or now... then report back...

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 10/05/2020 21:49

You know what ?

If you knew people who have died before 5heir time you would take this a lot more seriously.

If you don't then you won't....until you do.

I lost a lovely neighbour. 42 years old. Mother of 3 under 10s

No known health conditions.
Solicitor working from home.

Until people die that you actually know, none of this makes sense, ... until it does !

I am am rural. Nearest neighbour 1/4 mile away.... in 'low' impact area.

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 21:49

I can see if the teaching unions aren’t careful a backlash against the teaching profession. My DS’s school are doing Zoom calls, assessments and calls to each pupil twice a week (it’s private and that shouldn’t make a difference) but it does seem to.

My two nieces schools is doing the very minimum. At least 60% of teachers are claiming they can do very little because they state they need to prioritise their own children. The rest are just sending out worksheets, no homework. Nothing. One teacher said they don’t expect to go back until Sept earliest and it will be up to the unions.

Maybe it’s the fact they have a job for life and are in full pay whilst this is going on but I am disappointed and sad for the children who are missing out on being educated.

Utterlydespairing · 10/05/2020 21:50

No you can’t get on a packed tube. You have very bad comprehension skills if you think he said that

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 10/05/2020 21:51

Im not a teacher, don't know any, but I support you. My experience of losing a young neighbour has been enough to know that I wouldn't do your job. Stay home, stay safe.

So we are allowed to get on a packed tube but cant see family?
Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 22:01

My DM was a primary school teacher in Inner London. She did it because it was the ideal job if you had children. There is nothing wrong with this btw but for those of us who have 4 weeks leave to juggle holidays etc I often felt very envious of my school teacher friend. There are swings and roundabouts with all jobs. DH’s job has been stopped stone dead with no end in sight but in this situation teaching must be one of the safest financially.

Quarantined · 10/05/2020 22:02

@pooiepooie25 it's not teacher bashing. I've just stated the facts of the teachers I know. Your working week might look different, or perhaps I just touched a nerve, either way it doesn't mean you have to tell me to fuck off. Is that really the best way you could deal with this?

For what it's worth, I've always said I could never be a teacher as I don't have the patience. Plus I wanted a higher paying career, so I made different choices. Right now I think the job looks much easier than mine.

It's not teacher-bashing to say that my teacher friends who are able to devote time to homeschooling their own children, or are posting pictures of themselves relaxing in their gardens, are having an easier time of this than almost everyone else.

Quarantined · 10/05/2020 22:03

@Bathroom12345 exactly - teachers have the sort of financial security right now that most of us don't. I feel so sorry for people who have lost incomes through no fault of their own, it must be particularly grating for them.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 10/05/2020 22:06

Quarantined if you would be kind enough to point to where there is scientific evidence that kids don't spread the virus, then I will be happy to not call your post bullshit.

The latest evidence from the UEA medical school (that informs the government) shows that the Single most effective means of reducing the virus thread was closing schools

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 22:07

I guess some just have an easier time when something like this happens. It horrible, the finance sector was hit in 2008, others less so.

The elderly are primarily the most affected by this dam disease. Is it fair? Of course not but I guess not surprising.

Downton57 · 10/05/2020 22:08

It IS teacher bashing and it's rude and utterly unfair. This situation is unprecedented. Teachers have been thrown into a situation where they are being asked to educate children in completely different ways and they are doing their best, just as everyone else who is having to work from home. Many are working in hub schools. They have no say whatsoever in when schools reopen and which classes.

Pomegranatepompom · 10/05/2020 22:14

Unions are predictably already preparing their arguments for schools not to open.

ImperialLeather00 · 10/05/2020 22:15

I’m a teacher. I teach year 6. I have lost a grandfather and and a grandmother to the virus. I am also a parent to a year 1 child. I will not be sending my daughter back if schools open. My family has experienced this first hand and are taking this seriously. Having lost two family members weeks apart, my family is at breaking point. I won’t risk it and make no apologies for it.

Bathroom12345 · 10/05/2020 22:17

I do think though that some on this thread think to get their own back on the government that they will meet up with their elderly parents, people who are in poor health. Yes, you will need to go back to work but by going back it doesn’t then mean that you can meet your Mum, sister, sisters kids etc.

You do know that he is not doing it to be mean?

Quarantined · 10/05/2020 22:23

@disorganisedsecretsquirrel here are a few to get you going. It's obviously a rapidly developing area and needs to be studied more, but available resources are suggesting an emerging trend that children are not likely to transmit it.

So we are allowed to get on a packed tube but cant see family?
