Sorry, I know there's a similar thread already but what am I meant to be staying alert to????

What a crap message 😡...

(I've had coronavirus so I don't need to be alert to other people giving it to me. o do need to be alert not to pass it on inadvertently on my clothes to other's. Is this what he means?? Hmm )

Ps. Yes maybe stay alert to bombs in a warm, or mines, or people coming up behind to attack. Maybe stay alert when a terrorist attack is imminent.

But to a virus? Stay alert? Surely stay at home was way more sensible!

To shit government messaging.

LonginesPrime · 10/05/2020 14:18

I guess it means be alert to others coming too close and to the risk of getting infected and/or passing on the virus.

For example, pre-CV, I would usually carry on talking on my phone to someone in shops, etc but now I don't as I know personally I can't concentrate on anticipating people using the same aisle as me in a local shop (and telling them which way I need to go so we can manoeuvre around each other) as well as taking on the phone.

And being alert in terms of washing hands, not touching the post and then touching your face, etc.

Surely stay at home was way more sensible!

Yes, but it's not a sustainable long-term plan for most people.

I understand that one needs to avoid getting infected by having 2m distance, avoiding crowds etc.

Skybluepink123 · 10/05/2020 14:22

It’s such an ambiguous slogan. Staying alert to one person will mean something completely different to another. With the degree of uncertainty over what staying alert means, it feels like any progress we have made will be quickly undone. 😡

pigsDOfly · 10/05/2020 14:31

It's such an ambiguous slogan.

Ah, but it's a slogan, and that's what's important at the moment it seems to me.

Never heard so many slogans, cliches and metaphors in my life.

Every, briefing that's been given during this pandemic is just chock full of slogans, cliches and metaphors, especially when Boris Johnson is speaking. He does love a metaphor.

Very lazy way of getting a message across. Like listening to a poor quality advertising campaign.

yogz1976 · 10/05/2020 16:25

I really hope they do not expect us to snitch on our neighbours

Sparklingbrook · 10/05/2020 16:26

Stay Alert to all the threads asking what Stay Alert means.

BolloxtoGender · 10/05/2020 16:27

Why is Stay at Home more sensible, when many interpret that as invite people over for BBQ in the back garden.

nellodee · 10/05/2020 16:30

It means too many people were getting Bingo too early and we needed some extra squares on the board.

Noflora · 10/05/2020 16:34

If Stay at Home was so straightforward then why were we bombarded with infomercials as to what to do. This will be the same. Those who really can't understand what Stay Alert means will have ample opportunity to learn

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 10/05/2020 16:42

STAY ALERT so when you see the virus particles you punch them kung-fu style. But you need to stay alert at all times... :/

LindainLockdown · 10/05/2020 16:45

You should definitely stay home OP, for your own and everyone else's sake.

jobhunter7 · 10/05/2020 16:45

The only other obvious measure would be for Boris now to encourage people to wear masks at least in shops or on public transport.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/05/2020 16:48

I suppose to the symptoms of coronavirus?

elephantoverthehill · 10/05/2020 16:49

Stay a lert, your country needs lerts.

R1R2 · 10/05/2020 16:51

Dont be a twat
Stay away from people
Save lives

UntamedWisteria · 10/05/2020 16:52

Stay alert to stupid slogans invented by twats like Dominic Cummings

Inkpaperstars · 10/05/2020 17:53

Very good question OP. Not quite sure.

Remember to protect yourself too though, even if you have had it the jury is still out on what immunity that provides, according to P Vallance at most recent select committee hearing. Guess he forgot to tell Neil
Ferguson Grin.

Biscusting · 10/05/2020 18:00

I’m not in England, so does than mean that it’s business as usual on Monday? The advice seems to say stay at 2m apart if you can....so if you can’t stay this far apart, does that mean it doesn’t matter? Just get in with your job!?
