Schools repeating the academic year?

Do you think schools will or should repeat the academic year if they do not return until at least September? My eldest is end of August born and struggles anyway academically so in a way it would benefit him but does anyone think that will happen or be an option?

Nope. Some children have already done 2 years in nursery.. they dont need another year on top of that.
Then the rest that would follow. Wouldn't work

Maybe ask ht to repeat.
Some kids for next year might defer.

However i agree its likely 20/21 will be worse. So whether that means you dc is better to repeat or not i dont know.
As yr r wont be able to distsnce.
My dd yr r may look very different to her sisters. Probably no singing or nativity etc...
Although imo yr r just morning or half a week is probably better cor the summer borns as long as that is what everyone is doing as they get too tired and in trouble.

My dd is going at csa so is 5 in jul.
So it's a hard one as if she had gone this year at least she would have had till march.
Who knows what they may do with yr r it could only start after jan as realistically the other year groups are better behaved and learning more important. And you would have an extra classroom for the other year groups. And spare teacher considering some are likely to be shielding or sick.

I am in Scotland and my ds is supposed to be sitting national 5 next year.

I am really worried as it looks like the new school year will be part time

There needs to be a plan for education.. Part time is not going to cut it

I am pigged off the govt think that's acceptable

I don’t think the academic year should be repeated as nearly 2 of the 3 terms work (England) has been delivered normally.
I do however think it could be a good opportunity to reorganise the academic year. Wasn’t it set up like it is to help with farming etc? I think the academic year should start in January and ends in December. The cut of age for new yrRs should be the 31st August to start in January increasing the actual start age of pupils without increasing numbers. That would mean this year all those children who would have started school and have a place for September take that place up in January whether that be primary, secondary, college or uni. GCSEs could occur in Oct/Nov along with A’levels other countries around the world do this. I think the holidays should be altered with a maximum 4week break in the summer and 2 weeks for an early summer holiday break. This would allow a longer period of time for pupils to return to their current settings/classes before moving on. The current yr11 or yr13 (not ideal for them) could possibly return to their settings or possibly voluntary work. It would also give them an opportunity to retake GCSEs in Maths and English (as these are already set up to be retaken in November if needed) if they are not happy/didn’t achieve the require grade.
Any thoughts?
