Toilets!

Am genuinely interested in how people are managing this.

Lots of people are now going round to sit in family/friends gardens to chat and drink. Or driving for a walk, but if the walk has to be longer than the drive, then you’re away form home for quite a period of time. Or queueing for the supermarket for an hour before even getting in the door to start your weekly shop, and the supermarket have closed the toilets.

How are you all managing if you’re like me and need to wee quite often? Presumably you can’t go into the house of the person who’s garden you’re sitting in. I can’t be the only one who needs to wee more often than once every few hours!

Wannabeeme · 09/05/2020 10:31

I’m not doing any of those things.

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2020 10:34

Me neither. DP goes shopping and hasn’t had to queue more than 5 mins so far.

Aria20 · 09/05/2020 10:39

This is one of the reasons I abandoned the supermarket queue lol I suddenly really needed a wee so had to go home 😂
When I deliver food to my mum and sit on her garden wall for a chat while she is inside, I make sure I go to the toilet before I leave, it's a 25 min drive away and then I dont stay too long if I feel like I need the loo lol! When the restrictions loosen and I am allowed in if I need the loo, I'm sure she will disinfect the

AvoidingRealHumans · 09/05/2020 10:40

Piss in a Bush. Or bottle

Aria20 · 09/05/2020 10:40

Toilet seat, flush, door handle, light switch and taps etc after!

FlibbertyGiblets · 09/05/2020 10:40

Some people post lots about wee wee, about how to manage toilet needs out and about, how many loo rolls they have etc. OP you might not get a terrific response. Just saying.

ifonly4 · 09/05/2020 10:40

People shouldn't be going around to friends for a drink at the moment. When the times comes, I think we'll be limiting it to an hour so no one needs to go in our home and vice versa.

A lot of us won't be able to travel far from home if there aren't any toilets.

I've been trying to limit liquid before the supermarket shop, what used to take 45 mins including travel, can now take up to two hours - no joke if you need to use toilets regularly.

I did point out to DH if we needed a Covid test, that might be an issue as our nearest is a minimum of 75 mins drive. He reckoned we'd be fine not going to the toilet for 3/.5 hours until I pointed out he'd been to the doctors/hospital regarding regular urgination six months ago!

BaronessBomburst · 09/05/2020 10:43

If you ventilate the room, and wipe over the toilet seat, taps, door handle etc I really can't see how this would actually spread the virus.
Actually, scrap the toilet seat. No one will be secreting the virus through their buttocks.

ifonly4 · 09/05/2020 10:44

PuppyMonkey - you're DH is very lucky if he hasn't had to queue for more than five minutes - I'm not having a go. It's about 15 mins here, but can be 30 mins. I avoid the supermarkets on Friday/Saturday as the queues are even worse!

Greywind1523 · 09/05/2020 10:50

This is one of the main things that bothers me about potentially being called back from furlough.

My job means I have to go to people’s homes which could be up to 2 hours’ drive away. I can be out most of the day if I have a few back to back and would normally stop at McDonald’s/Costa etc to buy a coffee and use the toilet. I’m assuming this won’t be possible.

TotorosFurryBehind · 09/05/2020 10:57

I've not been drinking much before going out for walks, as since having a baby things are not what they used to be. I do think that public toilets being closed has made it difficult for anyone with continence issues to get proper exercise. I think I might buy a she wee, so I least I can go in an alley like a man if I'm desperate ☹️

Goatymcgoaty · 09/05/2020 10:58

@FlibbertyGiblets that’s ok, I’m bound to get a few sensible responses / tips / ideas!

@ifonly4 plenty are though, gathering by the other threads. Im not, but am starting to wonder how to manage this if some restrictions are relaxed but not others.

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2020 16:34

@ifonly4 he’s mainly going to Aldi and Lidl, so I don’t know if that makes a difference?

Swishswish26 · 09/05/2020 16:46

I have been worrying about the exact same thing. Can’t see the point of them opening up NT grounds, letting us travel further distances e.g. to the beach, to a beauty spot for a picnic if toilets are going to be closed everywhere for the foreseeable future. Wouldn’t work for me anyhow. Can just imagine it will force people to urinate behind trees etc which doesn’t seem particularly hygienic either.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 09/05/2020 16:56

Toilets are open in all the supermarkets I use - Asda, Tesco and Aldi. Nothing in place asking you to observe 2m distance but everyone seems to be using common sense.

Sandybval · 09/05/2020 17:00

I have been very limited where I have been going because I have urgency issues. Queueing for ages and then there being no loos inside is my ideal of hell, so DH goes (when he is here) and I just pop to the corner shop when we need a few bits. Long walks are a no no, I tend to do laps around where I live so I am never too far from home. It's always an issue for me, but definitely more so at the moment, the public toilets in town have closed so even popping for a prescription or anything is really stressful. I know needs must and all, but it is hard.

thewheelsonthebus23 · 09/05/2020 17:08

Toilets still in Morrisons where I go.
Otherwise I wee in a secluded spot (we live rurally, so lots of woodland, field and moorland)
I also have a shee wee thing and a travel Jane, for when we take long journeys. I have a predisposition to getting UTIs if I don’t regularly empty my bladder.

thewheelsonthebus23 · 09/05/2020 17:09

Oh and if I’m on a walk, I wee outside, again a rural area where we live. I think a horse was watching me suspiciously last time Blush

Ginfordinner · 09/05/2020 17:13

I make sure I don't go out straight after a drink, and use the loo before I leave the house.

RedToothBrush · 09/05/2020 17:14

Presumably you can’t go into the house of the person who’s garden you’re sitting in

Why are you going to the garden of someone else.

Did you miss the memo about not doing this?

Purpleartichoke · 09/05/2020 17:17

For the time being, we are going to be co strained by our bladders.

Dd had a fall yesterday and while I was checking her out and deciding if it warranted a&e (Ultimately we decided she didn’t need stitches and the other injury we would ice and watch), I couldn’t help but worry that it was the heavy day of my period and I wasn’t sure how I was going to manage.

lesbihonest · 09/05/2020 17:19

Not going out much for that reason - I need to use catheters at times so can’t go out longer than a couple of hours now . Lack of toilets (all hotels and public toilets shut here) and the fact that I can’t get basic things like hand sanitizer (which I need if in a public loo) means it wouldn’t be a good idea to go out for long .

My gran - who we expect to see first - has a separate toilet she keeps only for visitors so that’s fine when we can go there to visit .

ErrolTheDragon · 09/05/2020 17:30

I can go for hours on a long walk, and drink my share of a thermos of tea. DH is good at finding trees to go behind, and the longer walks we're doing don't have many other people on them.

Maybe it's because we've always done decent length walks regularly so, lacking a 'spigot' (to borrow Bob Flowerdew's term) I've trained my capacity? Grin

TabbyMumz · 09/05/2020 18:12

Most of our supermarkets you can pretty much walk in, queues only about 5 minutes, and the toilets in supermarkets are all open. If you go out on a walk in the countryside or woods...well what do you think people do when there are trees or bushes about?!

Northernsoullover · 09/05/2020 18:15

I just time my outings carefully. If I have to drop stuff up to my mum I don't drink at all before going. When I go back to work I'll just be careful of what I drink. Coffee goes straight through me Sad
