Shop workers and face coverings

An AIBU really but I don't want to get lambasted for posting about Covid-19 in general topics.

If you do don't wear face coverings to protect shop workers from your potential germs do you believe shop workers should have to wear them to protect you from their potential germs?

I ask because I've been helping out a friend today in her shop due to staff sickness. A slightly tipsy man asked me a question. I repeated the answer about three times before moving my mask slightly away from my face so he could hear me better, pulling it outwards not down away from my nose and mouth.

He jumped about 6 foot back and glowered at me like I'd just stepped on his kitten before demanding that I cover my face. I was a bit pissed off tbh. Previous to diving about 6 foot back away from the counter he was leaning towards the counter, inches away from the perspex screen my friend's husband erected to protect their staff. He was there buying alcohol so hardly an essential trip and he paid in change.

When I pointed out he didn't have a mask he informed me he did not have covid-19 because he's not a key worker but I might. He refused to take his carrier bag of alcohol from the counter until I moved to the other end of the counter.

AIBU to think this was twatty behaviour or he was he right to insist I wore a mask even though he did not have one?

He's a twat, he should also have been wearing a mask.

The reason shopkeepers are more likely to become infected is because they get to meet multiple twats.

You were protecting him, he should protect you.

Lots of people are tests to people who work in shops. They currently get to use CV as the reason they are cunts.

What a dick

Thank you. I knew he was a dick. I feel validated now Grin

When I told my friend she said they've had a lot more dickish behaviour than usual i.e people throwing money at them instead of dropping it into the little basket she has on the counter or insisting there is a special reason why they need three loaves of white bread contrary to her two items per person rule.

Fortunately she said they've also had a lot of people being nicer than usual leaving tips for staff or sending thank you cards.
