Online work partners/buddies for pre-teens/teenagers

My DD is working most of the day online with one of her best friends. They have the screen up and are doing their work together as partners. They are quite evenly matched academically and it seems to be working well. Anyone else's kids/teens doing this? There are also online zoom meetings with the teachers. This is giving my child a structure as she has to get up early enough to be online for her friend and they are motivating each other.

12yo DD hasn't been but I'm going to suggest it now, she's been dropping contact with friends as they have nothing to talk about so this seems like a good way to keep them in contact! Will hopefully motivate her a bit more with work too. Thanks OP Smile

I know it's not school work, but DD is having to do her sports training at home, and is definitely finding it beneficial to have a training buddy for this. They spur each other on and are definitely getting more out of it than if they were on their own.

Mine is kind of doing this but the work seems to take a very long time and there's a lot more talking than doing.... now I know what happens at school!

I think if you can find a good academic match that also works from a friendship perspective it can be productive. My DD was becoming quite lonely and demotivated before she started doing this. She is so much happier now! The work is being submitted and handed in on time. In fact, her work buddy is pushing her to hand it in early. If the actual work takes a bit longer I really wouldn't mind, just want her to be motivated and happy again. I think teachers should start gently suggesting this - or at least, that the kids try if it works for them.

My DD2 has a discord server for her group of friends. They are all in year 9 and in the same sets for subjects so have the same work to do.

At any time there are usually at least 5 kids online working, DD has had her music lesson moved to during the school day as she is at home and it’s similar for her friends.
It means I have had no input to her homeschooling because she can bounce off her friends.
