This isn't breaking lockdown is it?

DM lives 3hrs away by herself and has been unwell lately. Had tests at the hospital last week and has been put on an urgent referral for a biopsy as it looks like cancer. She's due to have this next week under general anaesthetic. It can be done as a day case only if she has someone at home with her.

I'm working from home right now so decided to take all my work stuff and work from her house instead. I can then take her to the hospital, pick her up and stay with her until she's up and about again. The alternative is that she gets hospital transport and stays in overnight. And she will be by herself at a worrying time.

This is ok isn't it? If it's ok to fetch a prescription, theoretically, then this is ok isn't it? We've immediately begun isolating our household until I leave, to reduce the risk of me taking COVID with me. We only had 7 days notice from the hospital though.

Whether its breaking lockdown or not I would do this. Hope your DM is ok.

ManualFlusherSnot · 07/05/2020 10:02

I would do it too.
I wish your mum all the best.Flowers

bengalcat · 07/05/2020 10:03

Yes it’s ok . Best wishes to you all .

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 07/05/2020 10:03

It's a hard one.

From a personal point of view I would do exactly what you're planning. I couldn't imagine my mum going through all of that alone. With the 7 day isolation, you are doing your best in the circumstances.

However, it is mixing households, so technically breaking lockdown.

I know what I would do in your situation, but it's definitely a case of what you think is best. I have everything crossed the biopsy comes back clear for her.

DivGirl · 07/05/2020 10:05

You're allowed to combine households, which is what you're doing. You aren't going back and forth.

I'd say it's fine.

Spam88 · 07/05/2020 10:10

It's fine, falls under caring responsibilities surely? Plus you're helping ease pressure on the nhs by enabling her to come home.

pooopypants · 07/05/2020 10:17

Sounds fine to me, you're caring for your DM and you being there means she'll be able to come home

whatnow40 · 07/05/2020 10:20

Thanks everyone. I had a mad dream last night that nosey neighbours reported me to the police and they came found upsetting mum and fined me!! It feels like the right thing to do at this point, and balancing the least risky action. She'd come in to contact with so many more people if she stayed in hospital, and it's technically an unnecessary stay as well. You've put my mind at rest and thanks for the well wishes.

I would do it too. Hope shes ok x

MindyStClaire · 07/05/2020 10:27

You're allowed to combine households, and to provide care. Please help your mum without a shred of guilt or doubt that you're doing the right thing.

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 07/05/2020 10:35

Of course you can do this, it would clearly come under the “caring for a vulnerable person” category.

Best of luck to your DM.

FoolsAssassin · 07/05/2020 10:37

Absolutely, agree it would totally fall under the caring for the vulnerable. I hope she’s ok Flowers

yearinyearout · 07/05/2020 10:41

Yes it's definitely ok, hope it goes well.

NoRoomInBed · 07/05/2020 10:41

It would think its providing care for vulnerable person so should be fine

SophieB100 · 07/05/2020 10:42

I hope your mum is ok OP, fingers crossed. It's a no-brainer for me, I'd do it in a heart beat. Flowers for you and your mum.

Dowser · 07/05/2020 10:45

Do it. It’s your mum .

Looneytune253 · 07/05/2020 14:06

You're allowed to go and care for a vulnerable person. It's in the guidelines

ScarfLadysBag · 07/05/2020 14:06

Yes it's clearly caring for someone vulnerable so irrelevant whether households are being mixed or not.

Topseyt · 07/05/2020 15:16

I would do it. I think it comes under the guidance of going to care for a vulnerable person.

I hope all is OK for your mother.

LilacTree1 · 07/05/2020 15:38

It’s fine, it falls under care for a vulnerable person.

Inkpaperstars · 07/05/2020 16:25

I think it is fine, I hope all goes well for you and your DM.

Tootletum · 07/05/2020 16:26

Who cares. It's life. If some nosey twat reports you, all karma to them.
