No cases at all. Why?

I work in a company with over 100 people squashed in a small building. No social distancing as we can’t due to nature of place. Agency staff and families coming and going. We have no PPE what so ever and get coughed/sneezed on. Yet we don’t have a single confirmed case of covid.
Is it that it’s not as bad as we think? Surely it can’t be as we are highest in uk. Is it that we are lucky but a ticking time bomb?

It’s that no one has been tested presumably and lots have had mild symptoms, doesn’t mean there’s not Covid spreading.

Why are people at work if they're coughing and sneezing?

Where are you in the country?

I work in a team of 10. Three have had positive results, two others have had extended family members with a positive result. To me, it feels like the numbers should be much higher than we are being told.

I should add though we are NHS.

Me and DH don’t know a single person between us who’s had it. We both work in large teams for huge companies, big social circles and large families on both sides. Just lucky I guess

I think it might be down to where abouts you are in the country. I know a lot of people who have had it and six people who have died 😔

In north west, which is one of highest areas.

Only those hospitalised were tested. Your workmates either haven't had it yet, or weren't sick enough with it.

Why are people at work if they're coughing and sneezing?

People cough and sneeze all the time. Why wouldn't they be at work?

I meant the clients cough and sneeze on us and due to their vulnerability there’s nothing we can do. Obviously prolonged coughing and they would leave but my workplace doesn’t tend to do that unless it’s been most of the day or they have temp too.

I also know/vaguely know of no-one who has died of this except those who were definitely very vulnerable to begin with ie flu/pneumonia would have probably also been enough...

All workplaces are expected to have social distancing in place:loads of ways they can do this, If they don't then one case will turn into loads.
Loads of industry is still open.

How old are you all? 20s? 30s? Just curious if you are all younger.

I suspect many people aren’t aware they even have it, particularly if they’re younger. I haven’t heard of anyone in our office of around 200 mainly under 30 people that have had it but 3 people are currently on leave due to family members having died from it

my dh works in a team of about 30 so far noone has had symptoms-doesnt mean they havent had it though

^ not true any more, dh & I were tested on Sunday (I had a fever, he was asymptomatic), my parents have just been sent tests (mum has a new cough), my friend was tested on Thursday (HCP mild symptoms). It is not difficult be tested if you have symptoms now (how reliable the tests are is another issue entirely).

DH and I know nobody who has had it either. Friends don't seem to know anyone directly although there's a lot of "Neighbour's friend's auntie's workmate's grandad has it"

I'm NW. My BIL, sil and neice have all tested positive in last week. We have had 3 confirmed tests in my workplace, and DH has had 1 in his.

I don't know anyone who has had it locally, nor do any of our family anywhere in the country. Not heard through friends of anyone who has had it either. That's why it all feels a bit detached from us. I think it's just luck though.

Maybe your workplace has lots of younger people in it? "The NHS stats show over 90% of deaths are over the age of 60 with deaths over 80 by far the most hit group"

Gradually as time goes on more and more people in my larger circle report that they have had it and no deaths thankfully. Where we live - rural area, the deaths are from elderly in care homes - it's sad but maybe shielding of the very vulnerable is the way forward.

I’m struggling to understand the concept of the test unless it can also tell you whether you’ve had it.

All it can say is that you’ve not fit it at that particular time. By the time you get home you could have caught it at the shop but won’t know, will spread it about and so forth.

NW. know people who have had it very bad but not ended up in hospital: at work and socially, . Know of some one who died that I met several times. Work with person who lost a family member. Knew the GP inBury that just died. So whilst we are fine, it's only an arms length away...

Only about 3-6 million people in the country will have had it since feb. Most will have been mild. Not really surprising if many people don't know someone with a serious case.

I'm in the southeast and I know 5 people who have had it, three in their 60s and two in their 40s. Both of the 40-somethings and one of the 60s spent time in ICU. Two of those three were ventilated and in a coma and it was 50/50 whether they would make it through.
I'm relieved to say that they are all now recovering. The last one was discharged a few days ago having spent almost a month in hospital.

I know people who have had it (NHS, carers) my SILs granny died. If you look at the map from the ONS, 6 people in my middle layer super output have died. When you look at the numbers its really not that many. When you add them up its much more frightening.
However all the supermarket workers in my local area are well (fortunately) and my local pharmacy. These are the places I have been expecting staff to be ill.
