Head teacher visiting all the children

Head teacher has announced on the school website that he is coming to visit all the children in their homes this week. We're not shielding but DH and I, ds3, ds4 and ds5 are on the vulnerable list. Ds5 really doesn't get social distancing (he has autism and global development delay) and will probably try and hug the head teacher given half a chance.

I'm quite worried about this, I really don't think it's safe for the head teacher to go and visit all the children. I don't think this is optional though.

Tell him he can see them via Zoom/Skype/WhatsApp?

After all that worry he didn't come anyway. Maybe he will next week. I think it's a good idea in principle and my 9 year old will love it. I just need to make sure I pick my 5 year old up and hold him in my arms while the headteacher is here.

I have never seen anything so ridiculous in my life. People name calling and suggesting he should be reported to the police for doing his job!

There is negligible risk in him standing in the garden/drive/back from the doorstep and having a visual check on the children.

The reaction to this make me think a lot of people here must have something to hide to be so extreme.

@biscuitbear8 I couldn't agree with you more!

If it was just my 9 year old at home then I'd be really pleased he cared so much about the children. But with my 5 year old being so unpredictable I worry about a lot of things that most people wouldn't. He might hide and refuse to come out, try and hug or lick the headteacher or make a run for it, there is really no predicting these things. Hopefully he will be having a good day and be happy to be held by me so the headteacher can see him. Unfortunately his difficulties have become much more severe since lockdown started.

Name calling is definitely not ok or helpful.

The govt guidelines rule out visiting people face to face for all but essential reasons for critical infection control reasons though. The head teacher is putting pupils at risk from his actions and shouldn’t be doing so.

No one here other than the OP is going to be impacted by this well meaning stupidity so I doubt anyone is pointing this out because they have anything to hide. Doesn’t seem any reason to believe this is the case with the OP that I can see?

Can you ask him to do a video call instead?

Safeguarding children is pretty essential in my opinion!
