I jest a little but in an ever moving situation and with so many politicians, countries and scientists saying so many different things not to mention the fact that education/school has always been the constant in our children’s life surely it’s only natural for people to be so invested in the subject?!

With that, and with Borris under pressure to outline the exit strategy in the next week I wondered what people’s thought are to how and when they will start the children back and school? I’m also keen to know if people’s thoughts have changed since the beginning of this and if you predicted September for example do you now think it’s likely sooner, or vice versus?

Key workers’ children encouraged back from next week (will send mine as soon as their friends are back )

All of Year 6, 10, 12 back after May half term

Missmummy88 · 04/05/2020 07:35

Initially I thought September (which I believe to be the sensible choice) then I flipped to after May half term and now I’m thinking September again!

Scottishgirl85 · 04/05/2020 07:39

1st June. Potentially part-time to allow smaller class sizes. Classes not to mix with other classes, lunch in class rooms etc.

lorisparkle · 04/05/2020 07:42

My guess has not changed since before lock down.

I think that there will be an increase in the numbers of children offered places at schools with specific ages going back but on a part time basis after half term.

This will increase gradually until all students are back

BUT I think we will go back into lockdown as normal flu starts to impact the NHS

Ireland and France have gone with September. Cant see England being much different

I’m in a fortunate position that don’t work but I do have a Y6 that would desperately like to do some of the end of term fun stuff an go say goodbye to her friends and a Y7 who thinks the biggest tragedy in all this is that she has been cruelly separated from her social life...Hmm

Surely if year 6 go back it will be very limited? Are secondary schools going to welcome bus loads of primary kids on tour/get to know you days at their sites?

Social distancing will put pay to any events such as assemblies, disco/prom etc.

If classes are split into different sessions (am/pm and/or different days) then no guarantee that friendship groups will be in same session!

There is lots of "year 6 is a top priority" but, looking at what can be achieved is there much point?

hippohector · 04/05/2020 11:47

I cannot see the point of yr6 going back tbh.
It’s not like they will be able to do all the fun stuff like their end of year proms and trips with social distancing measures, so what’s the point? Their SATS have been scrapped, their next step is secondary, so how much learning in primary can they do? Is it worth the risk?

Don’t know how the schools are going to go back without the school buses taking children to/from school each day. And quite frankLy I don’t like the thought of mine being on a bus with goodness knows how many other children in all different classes for half an hour.

Ricekrispie22 · 04/05/2020 12:26

If they’re sending year 6 back to transition them to secondary, then surely it’s equally as important to transition all of the 4 year olds due to start primary school in September.
