Has anyone been stopped by the police and questioned on reason for being out?

The police are very active on monitoring cars doing non essential journeys in my town. A few times a week over the past month they’ve set up a road block on a main road out of the town, and pulled over all cars, asking each one where they are going. Were there this afternoon doing just this.

Is everyone else finding this? What do you tell them if you are popping to your parents for a socially distanced chat in the garden? Or to B&Q (arguably non essential)? It’s putting me off going out at all to be honest. And we haven’t broken any rules. It seems from a lot of recent threads that people are bending the rules a bit though.

This is a rural town in the middle of England. The town itself is not a tourist destination. I can’t think of any reason why we’re being targeted like this.

It's great that they've cleared their desks if all crime and have time to be doing that all day

I live in a city. They have other things to be getting on with. Never see them, never been stopped, noone I know has ever seen them or ever been stopped. It'd be quite handy as there are boy racers doing loops of the town, but there you go. Police cuts.

I've also driven on a fair few motorways. Nothing.

If it was a key route towards a tourist hot spot, that would make sense. It’s not though. It’s a normal road out of town towards a dual carriageway, a closed garden centre and the odd closed restaurant. There’s no country parks to head to.

No, I've seen them driving about our (v. quiet and secluded) group of houses quite a bit though. Maybe they think that we are more likely to be rule breakers as we are off the beaten track lol.

@mrsormiss actually that's shocking. Incredibly insensitive to follow a woman in plain clothes like that. They should be ashamed of themselves. I bet they aren't, though.

We've had them on our very leafy green estate a lot but we're semi rural. The roads here are like rabbit warrens due to the way it's laid out so they've been out patrolling everywhere.

Dh has been stopped on the way to work, he's in his 50's and very normal looking.

No and we have been in the car a fair bit sometimes taking ds the hour journey to his school and driving somewhere to exercise whenever he is not at school.

We live close to a national park and although we are allowed in it and have a letter to show due to ds's disability so far we haven't because we know they are stopping people and we can't be doing with the hassle and stress of it.

The only vehicles I have seen stopped are police looking in the boot/ searching the vehicle of young male drivers and I suspect they are looking for certain items.
