Social distancing to 1m - will be used to lift lockdown

There has started to be lots of talk about social distancing in the UK being reduced to 1m rather than 2m.

I think the Gov will do this and hence allow a broad release of lockdown and re-start of the econonmy with schools and transport being best endeavours for 1m social distancing.

Remember the WHO use 1m (www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public)

The fact is that lots and lots of the "problems" that keep being raised about lockdown being lifted in relation to the workplace and even schools will be (broadly) resolved by the government advising social distancing of 1m - people who think they won't run with this are forgetting the government's priority (rightly or wrongly) is to get the economy going ASAP in a way that does (or looks to) protect public health to a good degree.

It means things like no handshakes for the foreseeable future. Good by me.

I'm sure I read on the BBC website this morning that WHO say you are 'safe' at 1m separation for 2 seconds. You are 'safe' at 2m for 1 minute. I can't find the link now. I know which I'd prefer though.

That is not what the guidelines say @seeline. This is from the WHO website.

Australia is 1.5 metres and they've done pretty well

*"The World Health Organization recommends staying one metre apart, while the UK government recommends two.

Its scientific advisers say two seconds spent one metre apart is as dangerous as spending one minute two metres apart."*
