Not sure what it's like nationally but in my area at least everyone seems to be totally slacking off on lockdown. After isolating for a few weeks I've seen more and more people visiting one another. Unashamedly posting photos of their visits or drinks in the garden.

Today my parents who up til now have taken this quite seriously announced that they've been food shopping to three different shops. Went to b&q for plants and somewhere else for more diy stuff. When I asked them if it was really essential they said well the 'thousands' of other people didn't seem to mind.

Has lockdown totally relaxed now? Opening non essential shops seems to have made people think they can do what they want again.

I don't see that happening round my way but I think people will be getting slack as the focus is now on saving the economy and not so much saving lives. I think the government are desperate to get us all out there and back to work and the recorded deaths will shoot up.

Another one of these threads, must the fifth this week!
It’s inevitable that compliance will reduce the longer it goes on and that will be factored into the governments numbers.
FWIW I and everyone I know are still complying. Haven’t seen any clandestine visits on my street.

Well the shops are open, and allowing people in to buy what they have in stock so why not. Social distancing has been put in ace in all shops, so what is your problem?

myrtletheturtle45 · 02/05/2020 19:32

Apologies i hadn't seen the other threads. I'm not constantly scrolling MN 🙈

My problem is the mixed messages. Only go out for essential things but suddenly non essential shops like b&q are reopening. I understand why people want plants and gardening equipment and diy products when they are stuck at home but it's not essential is it?

We are either in lockdown and going out for food/medicine only or we're not.

At no point was B&Q not able to open. DIY shops and off-licences were counted in the essential retailer list from day 1 (coz...fixing a sink yourself while pissed is always a good look?). They simply did click and collect until they had time to implement measures to protect their staff. I have not hanged my behaviour and don't know anyone who has.

B&Q was never told to shut. It was always permitted to be open.
