How many children with EHCPs are in school?

I keep seeing the assumption that children with EHCPs are in school because government said that they should be when lockdown happened.

My son is in a SEN school so the whole school has EHCPs and they closed when all the other schools did. He really needs to be in school, he's barely had an education and is near the end of primary but I understand that they closed as they didn't have enough staff. I'm hoping they will in the first wave of returners to school rather than just focusing on exam years.

Are your children in? Would you like them to be?

I'm mainstream primary, only one of the children in school at the moment is even on the SEND register, let alone has an EHCP. I have 4 children in my class with EHCPs, all for S&L, none of them are in, and I'd argue that they don't need to be in any more than anyone else.

Dd has an EHCP and was offered a place. I didn't take it because we don't need it. She's fine at home.

My daughter is in school (independent specialist school) They are open for all the children who want and are able to attend. The three generic special schools around here closed just before lockdown and none of what would be in excess of six hundred pupils with EHCPs are or have been in school

My son school is a specialist provision. It closed due to staffing issues. It has reopened one site (its across 2 buildings) for children of key workers who are risk assessed for them to be safe there. Lots of the chikdren have autism so are safer at home than in a strange building with different staff.

At my school each one is judged individually. So if the parents request or need their child in they’re offered some days but mainly they’re at home and we keep in frequent contact.

Mine was offered a place (though it was made clear by the usually lovely SENCO that they would prefer she didn't attend). I had withdrawn her from school the week before due to concerns as she is in the vulnerable group so I didn't send her. I also reasoned that it wouldn't be to her advantage to be in school without (necessarily) her one to one and in a mixed age class with different staff each day.

Thing is she really misses school, I don't know what or how I will decide when schools go back Confused

Mine is mainstream, we were offered for him to go in but I wanted to keep him home . He is on a reduced timetable and school have been really helpful and understanding .

I pulled my son out 4 days before they closed thinking sod the consequences, doesn’t matter that his exams/prom are cancelled although he feels cheated, he understands and is a lot calmer learning at home knowing the work he puts in now will count toward his grades, college have given him a place without meeting the entry criteria but if this is still the situation around August he ain’t going back

My son is in a sen school with EHCP is allowed to go into school but he is shielding so can't.

My dd is in a mainstream primary school and has a ehcp, she was offered a place but I declined it as it wasn’t worth the risk for me and I’m not working anyway

Ds attends a special school. He was offered a place as I am a LP key worker, however I chose not to take it up as I think the difference in school would upset him too much at the moment. However with every week thay goes on I am moving closer to accepting the place offered as he is not coping at home, leading to daily meltdowns and self harm.

DS has an EHCP and is at a mainstream primary with 1:1 support. His school is closed and the place he was offered was at a hub with different children and adults each day. He has asd so this is completely unsuitable. We've had one email from the SENCO since school closed and nothing from his teachers and the school isn't setting or marking work so we've been left to it. We're planning work for him and doing his SALT and OT alongside WFH but I have no idea how we'll get him back in school. Agree with PP that the EHCP school place offer is complete BS.
