Ds was offered a credit to his easyjet account today, he booked as the main lead for a bunch of pals to go away June, it's only the deposit that's been paid, would they get the deposit refunded I wonder?

They are young and want a cash refund not a credit. But as its just the deposit and not the whole balance, not really sure where we stand.

He won't get a cash refund on a deposit.

ssd · 29/04/2020 21:58

Why not, the holiday is cancelled due to the pandemic, not their fault , why would they not get a refund, the balance isn't due anyway.
Thanks for helping me understand this.

Is it a package deal? Were the flights booked with hotel nights?

LilyE1234 · 29/04/2020 22:11

If it’s been cancelled, he will be entitled to a refund for whatever he has paid.

Airlines aren’t being very helpful with allowing customers to request a cash refund though, as they want to keep the cash. You can easily accept a voucher via the website but to get the cash refund you have to ring up and sit on hold until someone can help you.

Were the flights and hotel booked together? Have they been cancelled?

If yes to both, they are entitled to a refund under Package Travel regulations. He can reject the credit and request a refund within 14 days as per PTR.

However, i didn't think EJ were cancelling June holidays, only May. But the balance is due, and normally if you chose not to pay the balance you'd forfeit the deposit. Instead, they are offering a credit of the deposit so you can go later.

If he wants a refund, he would need to pay the balance and then wait for the holiday to be cancelled - at that point, he's entitled to a full refund under PTR. Of course, the holiday may not be cancelled, especially if it is the end of June.

ssd · 29/04/2020 22:15

OK thanks.
Can I ask, what's PTR?

Sorry I worked out PTR

The holiday won't technically have been 'cancelled' yet.

ssd · 29/04/2020 23:20

Should they wait until its cancelled then, or would they have to pay the balance for this to happen?

If you Google Martin Lewis Holiday refund, it should come up.

JacobReesMogadishu · 30/04/2020 07:15

If they don’t pay the balance they are deemed to have cancelled it themselves and won’t get the deposit back.

If they pay the rest and then wait for easyJet to cancel the flight/package holiday then they are legally entitled to a refund. Some airlines and I believe easyJet are one are being arseholes and trying to insist on credit notes.

If it was me it would depend what the difference between the deposit and full amount was. The danger is if easyJet goes bust what happens? I don’t know if there’s other protection......I think if you’ve paid in a credit card there might be some protection from that so if they do choose to pay the rest do it by credit card.

kingkuta · 30/04/2020 07:34

Its Ryanair that are being the arseholes, not sure about easyjet. You definitely need to head over to Martin Lewis website, he has a lot of advice re this.

Will do, thanks everyone
