Mild Symptoms

Is it possible to have very mild symptoms but still have Covid? Everything I have seen has been all doom and gloom or you know you've got it as you feel like you've been hit by a bus type things.

For the record, I started with a cough on Monday night. A dry, tickle cough which is irritating as fuck and brings on a coughing fit before buggering off for a while. Yesterday my temperature tipped 37.8-37.9, which is higher than normal for me. Combined with the cough, symptom checker suggested likely to be covid so isolate etc.

Luckily(?) I am an education keyworker and as DH is also a keyworker, I went online yesterday and booked a test at a nearby centre. This was for this morning and actually, wasn't as horrible as I thought it might be. 20 minutes in and out. Was very quick so I guess I have been lucky given some reports of people queuing for hours.

But I still feel a bit... fraudulent... I guess that I could and did access a test based on a bit of a temperature and an irritating couch, albeit a new one. Im not a hay fever sufferer otherwise I would have probably gone there as my first option.

The only other thing I have had is aches in my arms, hands and a slight burning sensation in my chest at times - like when you've inadvertently inhaled bonfire smoke or similar.

Is there anyone here who knows they have had covid but didn't have many or awful symptoms?

Thanks for reporting back - glad both of you are negative!

My DH has tested positive, he had a mild temp on the first day and just bog standard cold symptoms otherwise. He’s easily been continuing to wfh as normal. Slightly more tired than normal, we’re nearly up to the 14 day mark now so can’t imagine it’ll get any worse. He’s late 50s, is overweight and has a mild heart condition.

@symptomaticMNer what was the test experience like?

symptomaticMNer · 01/05/2020 15:37

It wasn't too bad although I had to take the sample myself. I recommend watching the video on the booking site as I felt that was more informative than the sheets I was given.

Drove up to the site, showed them my QR code which they scanned and then told me where to go (massive complex where my centre was). Then they scan and check again once I got there and asked me to dial a mobile number so they could talk to me. Explained what they were going to do and posted all the sample stuff through my passenger side window and I pulled up in a parking bay. Another person approached and asked me to dial a number so I could speak to her Once I had taken the sample I had to put hazards on (or could do that if you needed help) and they checked I had bagged and labelled everything properly then sent me towards the exit. I had missed the instruction to double bag so had just dropped the vial in the sample bag. But the bag they gave me everything in was supposed to contain the vial and absorbent sheet then put that bag into the other bag before sealing and adding your id label. Had to open the sealed bag, bag properly and put in a new sample bag. Once I had done that, drove to exit, dropped sample bag into a box through the window but also had to drop opened bag in a bin. Apparently you can get fined if you are found to still have it. The rest of the rubbish I disposed of at home.

I did find it quite awkward taking my own sample tbh.

just adding this link because I found it useful re doing the test

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 01/05/2020 21:44

@symptomaticMNer Does it hurt? It looks like it would be pretty uncomfortable

symptomaticMNer · 02/05/2020 04:04

Shock I’ve found a pic showing how far back the nasal swab should go. The instructions say ‘until you meet resistance’. There is no way mine went this far in but I felt like I couldn’t push it further. This is the problem I guess with diy.

The worst thing is my symptoms haven’t improved since the test. They’ve not got worse mind, apart from some pain on deep breaths. Like when you’ve been winded and are catching your breath. But everything is manageable.

I’m going for a test today. I have mild flu like symptoms, aching body, headache but also sneezing lots. No temperature, but feel flushed. Sense of taste and smell completely gone after three days of symptoms. Feel a little wheezy, with an occasional cough if I breath in too sharply.

Husband had the same symptoms just over a week ago and young son woke with a fever and shakes on Wednesday night. He’s fine now.
I don’t feel as though it’s Coronavirus but if I have the test and it’s negative it means I don’t have to isolate for 14 days, whereas if I don’t know, I do because we’ve all had symptoms.
It’s at a drive through test centre.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 02/05/2020 09:06

@symptomaticMNer - ouch! I really don't think I would do that properly if I was carrying out my own test!

@Sicktiredanddown Good luck with the test. Please let us know how it goes

Hoping you both start to feel better soon

Sicktiredanddown · 02/05/2020 09:53

Thanks feel a bit bad going as it’s probably just a cold.. I’m quite sneezy today and I’ve heard that’s more likely to just be a cold.

I hate making a fuss and usually wouldn’t think twice about the way I’m feeling. I guess we all need to be so careful at the moment though.

Blobbyweeble · 02/05/2020 19:48

I received notification today that I’m positive with only mild cold symptoms, no temp or cough.

Layladylay234 · 02/05/2020 19:51

Can I ask did any of the staff mention about not being able to do it if you had mouth ulcers? My partner's come down with symptoms and is eligible for a test, but my sister who had one last week, said it wouldnt be accurate if the person had mouth ulcers?!

Sicktiredanddown · 02/05/2020 19:58

The test was fine. Took seconds and although the tonsil swab tickles the nose swab wasn’t really even uncomfortable.

The nurse did ask if I had any sores in my nose, I don’t think she mentioned any in my mouth.

Feel tired still and my cough is more persistent now.

How do you get the results?
