How many scrubs bags do the hospitals need?

I think our village sewing group has made at least 4,000,000!

Nobody wants scrub bags. We use plastic clinical waste bags and double bag them if we are taking the scrubs home to wash

Bloomburger · 26/04/2020 12:48

Really?

That's interesting.

I want to ask group sergeant major if we've done enough yet but am bit scared it'll cause a ruckus 😬

I wondered this, also wondered why they couldn't just use pillow cases? Surely that would save time in having people making the drawstring bags?

Our local hospital has requested people to make them (on their official Facebook page) , so it does seem that protocol for whether they are allowed varies place to places

ForeverBubblegum · 26/04/2020 13:04

I have my suspicions that even the hospitals asking for them don't actually want them. But people want to do something to help, so are been given a harmless task for the sake of moral. Far better then people using 'initiative' and buying up medical grade materials to make useless scrubs, and getting offended if they don't see them been used. Or the hospital been stuck sorting and redistributing mountains of biscuits.

I've been redeployed from my Community Therapies job to a ward based role and id love a drawstring bag to shove my uniform in at the end of a shift. Much nicer than using a pillow case and of course the drawstring makes it easier to carry to and from car. However, you can probably stop now as it sounds like you've made more than enough😂

coconuttelegraph · 26/04/2020 13:07

Healthcare and care workers in my local Facebook groups always say they need them if anyone offers any. I don't suppose they're saying it to be nice, they don't need to post at all.

EllaPaella · 26/04/2020 13:11

I'm a hospital nurse and I have been given one. It is quite useful as I can just put the whole bag straight in the washing machine with my uniform.

RoryGilmoree · 26/04/2020 13:12

Yeah sorry lovely thought but we cannot take our scrubs off site currently and I wouldn't want to either. Nurses/HCAs may appreciate them for their uniforms though as some are still wearing them rather than scrubs. I know we can't accept handmade masks for hygiene reasons though so unsure if my hospital would accept drawstring bags for uniforms either.

Appreciate the thought though Smile

KipperTheFrog · 26/04/2020 13:15

I’d appreciate one so I can change out of my uniform at work before coming home. Don’t get offered them in gp land though!

KipperTheFrog · 26/04/2020 13:16

Sounds like you’ve probably made enough though OP

HappyHammy · 26/04/2020 13:26

They can be used after cv. Its nicer to put used uniforms in them and straight into the machine. They can double up as wash or school bags if they arent needed for .uniforms

BakedCam · 26/04/2020 13:34

OP,

Have I read this right?

Four hundred thousand?

Bloomburger · 26/04/2020 13:42

No I thinks it roughly about 4 million, give or take!!

They are useful for staff needing to launder their own uniforms at home. We need to change out of uniform at work and as pp said it can go straight in the washing machine with the uniform. I would like one and might see if we have had any donations at work. They would also be useful for care homes for the same reason.

Donstrenchcoatanddarkglasses · 26/04/2020 14:09

We had lots of donations of scrub bags at work, and they were put out for us to help ourselves. They were very popular, I think they all went. I think people politely took one each, but ideally I would have liked two - sometimes not everything is dry the next day.
I think they are very useful, and as far as I know well appreciated by most of my colleagues- not just me.

We've had lots of kind donations from businesses and the public, and they are gladly appreciated and have made us smile. The hospital admin team are doing an amazing job co-ordinating the donations and getting them distributed to us too. I think it's brilliant.
