Post virus kidney pain - anyone else?

I had symptoms of coronavirus about a month ago, a few days after DH.

I was fortunate that it didn't seem to affect my lungs very much, but I felt terrible, dizzy, tired, joint pain, occasional fever, nausea, very gurgly tummy!

After about a week, I developed intermittent lower back pain, including horrible swueezing/scrunching feelings. After a few days, I rang GP, who thought kidney infection and I had a week of antibiotics that didn't make much difference. Less pain, still sore on/off, focused on two balls of tightness/pain in back.

Has anyone else had kidney issues after the virus? GP eventually decided to test me for kidney stones, so I'm waiting for results, but he was very skeptical the pain was anything to do with virus.

I've now had on/off kidney pain for >3 weeks :(. No other urinary issues, no blood in urine, drinking tonnes of water.

Wondering if anyone else had this, and how long it took to recover!

@Resisterance thank you so much, you've given me some hope! I didn't drink alcohol for 3 months but started again moderately since it didn't seem to make a difference, maybe will give up again. I did think I should try to give up caffeine, that's probably my biggest remaining source of inflammation in my diet, but it'll be hard :).

Kidney stone pain varies.

It can be excrutiating and unbearable and like the worst moments of childbirth but it can also be an ache or backpain.

It depends on where the stone is and how stuck it gets.

If you have been ill, you might have become dehydrated. This can cause/increase the size of kidney stones.

A scan would help find this out.

Yes, I've had blood tests, an xray and an ultrasound. No stones.

Def give up caffeine! That will be making it much worse. Water, herbal tea treat yourself like you would a baby. You've survived a hideous illness. You need to really look after yourself.

Anyone who thinks it's Long Covid - if symptoms continue ask for a referral to a Long Covid clinic. I don't know when they'll be up and running but it's worth getting on any waiting lists they might have.

It's quite likely to be long-covid

The bad news is that since nobody knows the cause of this, there is no treatment on the horizon. There'll be a myriad of snake-oil "cures" hitting the market - best avoided.

The good news is that you haven't gotten worse, so you needn't worry about impending organ failure.

All you can really do is seek medication to control the pain.
