Is it ok to do this?

Whenever this lockdown is lifted and we are able to see family again. Do you think it's acceptable for me to ask grandparents and aunties and uncles etc not to kiss or hug my children, and too keep a bit of distance.

I think whatever you feel is right is what's acceptable. I'm pregnant and due in a month, planning on not seeing anyone but very close family to start with. On the other hand, not sure if it would make a difference not having actual physical contact, unless you're planning on asking them to keep a 2m distance? Which is hard with kids, not sure how old yours are. Interested to see what other posters say.

Cuddling57 · 25/04/2020 20:39

I think this will be standard advise.

PumpkinP · 25/04/2020 20:54

Why wouldn't it be ok? I'm not a kissing or hugging person so won't be doing any of that anyway

namechangeybaby · 25/04/2020 20:55

Thank you for your replies. I feel that it will be easy to tell my parents what I expect, but my in laws just brush it off as me being dramatic.

My kids are 3 and 8 months.

I think it's a bit over dramatic personally

OccasionalNachos · 25/04/2020 21:06

Probably wise. It won’t wash with DS’s grandparents, though - they are counting the days until they can cuddle him again.

Maybe relax a bit depending on how risky/at risk they are. If they continue to social distance and are healthy... that’s different to having underlying health conditions and/or working as a paramedic.

namechangeybaby · 25/04/2020 21:07

Yeah I'm expecting that from my family, and I understand it. They are all still working and using the tube etc and I just feel their chances are higher and I have to protect my kids. Maybe I'm being too much

@OccasionalNachos I have the same situation, they keep commenting on getting that "kiss and cuddle" and it just makes me feel so anxious

They are not social distancing themselves at all

I personally don’t plan on letting anyone even see DS until I’m totally comfortable. Also pregnant myself and not even going to the shops at the moment to be sure.

I’d say whatever you’re comfortable with and I think people will understand.

Floatyboat · 25/04/2020 21:13

Surely they're the ones to be worried. How would you stop your children approaching and cuddling, climbing on etc the family.

Pipandmum · 25/04/2020 21:14

I think social distancing will be recommended until the end of the year. Be firm. Don't worry about hurting people's feelings.

SpeedofaSloth · 25/04/2020 21:17

I don't like social kissing or hugging TBH, never have, so I don't plan to ever go back to it with anyone I don't want to... I am hoping this gives me a bit of a cover story.
