Will you be going back to 'normal'?

Since we don't know yet when lockdown will be eased or what that might mean, I was wondering what you all might do when things become more normal?
DP and I have both said that we shall not be attending any large gatherings of people, and still be observing social distancing for as long as possible. I do not want this disease. Ever.

I'm heading for restaurants and pubs at the first opportunity, which I don't expect to be any time soon. Can't think of any one I particularly want to see when lockdown ends and I avoid people as much as I possibly can under normal circumstances, so social distancing will definitely continue. Being able to browse in shops again will be nice - I don't do it often but the mood takes me now and again. Yes, I'll pretty much go back to normal as restrictions are lifted.

ItsAllForYou · 25/04/2020 18:46

Yes I will be going straight back to normal life as soon as they say it is okay to. I will be attending concerts, football matches and going to the pub as before and I can't wait.

KaptenKrusty · 25/04/2020 18:48

Yeah soon as it’s allowed il
Be out and about - travel, via our friends, work etc

We can’t live like this forever - it’s been fine and kinda fun and racing for a bit! But starting to tire of it now.

I need to have fun, do things, live my life!

You could get the illness now while in lockdown and then your final days were just this - stuck at home, you never got to do anything else or say goodbye to any of your friends or Family!

Pinkflipflop85 · 25/04/2020 18:48

Will be going straight back to normal. I want to live my life and enjoy it, not just exist.

Maxandezra · 25/04/2020 18:54

yes, and it cant come soon enough for me. Mostly I want the NHS to go back to normal I want all the people with NON covid health needs to start getting proper care again. I want my job to be back to normal so I can do that. I am a clinician in the NHS.
It saddens me so much what is happening to the healthcare needs of everyone except pts with COVID 19

wouldyouadamandeveit · 25/04/2020 18:56

I'll go back to normal as soon as permitted. The chances of there being a successful vaccine are slim. Think of the flu jab, they change the drug every year. Unfortunately I think this is something we are going to have to live with and I'd rather live my life than stay cooped up. Social distancing fine, I think most of us would be slightly nervous of being any closer for a while yet anyway.

Hope working from home continues as my office will only be offering 50% of existing desk space going forward.

I want to see my eldest (23), but will stay away from my mum (70), though that hurts more than anything.

MrsGrindah · 25/04/2020 19:01

I think some posters on this thread think its lockdown vs normal life ie going back to everything you did before. I think it will be a slow easement with some restrictions for a long time yet ( and be prepared for another lockdown if another wave hits).

Knocksomesense · 25/04/2020 19:03

I'm aiming for September and will assess then. Until then I'm really happy at home with husband and two preschoolers. I really am missing my mum though and if the boys are still off school I will go and visit them

winwingingin · 25/04/2020 19:04

When all the pubs & restaurants were closed I was really upset. Then I remembered I have 6 kids & never went anyway! The first thing I'll do is drop the children to the grandparents, & go to a restaurant and pub...hopefully on a nice hotel break...as long as it's deemed safe!

handbagsatdawn33 · 25/04/2020 19:05

After a haircut, I'll be banging on my travel agent's door to book a holiday - any holiday, anywhere - to get away from home.

Tana433 · 25/04/2020 19:05

I have got tickets to 3 concerts in Oct and Nov this year and i really, really hope i can go to them. Especially the November one as its Elton John and we just dont know how much longer we have with him being able to perform well do we?
I know there are bigger things but the thought of these is what is keeping me going for now.

MotherOfGreyhound · 25/04/2020 19:06

Ah yes - you've got to die of something.
I'm sick of hearing that.
Why would you deliberately put yourself at risk of catching this awful virus?

I suppose it depends on how much protecting yourself from the virus takes away from your quality of life.

I don't plan on deliberately putting myself at risk, but will ne going back to normal as soon as permitted. I am aware that this may put my physical health at greater risk but lockdown is hurting my mental health so much I that i feel the risk to be worthwhile.

@supersop60 I don't think you can compare this virus to being hit by a bus, which is probably very likely to kill you if it happened. The average death rate around the world is still sitting at about 7%, without taking into account the millions that have been asymptomatic or untested. The vast, vast majority of deaths have been in over 70s.

Chrisinthemorning · 25/04/2020 19:12

I won’t feel comfortable going back to normal that quickly. When the schools reopen I will send DS back though, for his mental health. I will be distancing from my parents to keep them safe. I am hoping DH will work from home for a long time. I am currently signed off work with anxiety and doubt I will be back until things are properly normal at work, guess that will be a year or 2!

tootyfruitypickle · 25/04/2020 19:14

I rebooked some musical tickets for sept. Will send dc to school. But I won’t be going into the office if I can help it. I’m quite sure over the years the viruses I have caught have been on public transport. The musical would be a risk - but small and it would bring joy (unlike the tube !)

RhymingRabbit3 · 25/04/2020 19:15

I wouldnt go back to normal. I would go and visit family and a small group of friends, but I would be quite careful about who I see and when. I definitely wouldnt be going out for meals or attending busy places such as pubs or toddler groups. I probably wouldnt send my child back to preschool for the time being.

TheWooisStrong · 25/04/2020 19:15

I’d like to be able to go out more than once a day... a run in the morning, a picnic with the children, another walk to the park.
I’d like to be able to go to see friends and parents again.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/04/2020 19:16

Nope.
I'm shielding and will continue for as long as it takes.
It's shit but I'd like to be alive at the end of this.

HarrietM87 · 25/04/2020 19:16

I’m pregnant and not due til early November so even if they lift all the restrictions before then I’ll probably avoid big gatherings and try to work from home (to avoid public transport on the commute mainly) as much as possible. Personally really hoping the restrictions are in place for a while longer so that the decision is taken out of my hands.

Nekoness · 25/04/2020 19:18

@Wtfdidwedo did you read it causes stroke in younger people? Then there’s that Broadway actor in early 40s with a baby who had his leg amputated because of covid complications.

RhymingRabbit3 · 25/04/2020 19:18

The average death rate around the world is still sitting at about 7%
Am I right in thinking that this is only the death rate of those admitted to hospital and tested. So therefore doesnt include anyone with mild or no symptoms, meaning the actual death rate is much lower

hollieberrie · 25/04/2020 19:18

I'm recovering from it - its been a hideous 6 weeks and i am terrified of ever catching it again. Equally terrified for friends and family. Its not to be taken lightly, I've never felt so ill. I'll be stayed locked down as long as possible until forced to go back to work etc.

Inconnu · 25/04/2020 19:20

Yes, I'll be going back to normal as soon as the government lifts lockdown.

ACautionaryTale · 25/04/2020 19:22

Normal.

There are two things that stick in my mind:

Stephen Hawkins quote - I’m not afraid of death I’m just not in any hurry to die

And another one - fearing death doesn’t prevent it - it prevents you enjoying life

If living like this is what we need to do to avoid getting corona with a likely 1% fatality rate (when all the results are in) I’ll live my life

I’m 44 and obese - but I have probably another 30-40 years in me given my families longevity (all obese ). If there is a vaccine at some point or herd immunity - great.

I do not want to spend 30-40 years living like this to avoid corona. That is no life
