News footage I have seen of other countries, they are washing down the streets and public areas. Why aren't we doing this?

OP posts:
TheThingWithFeathers · 25/04/2020 11:09

Which countries? I have never seen this.

Wankerchief · 25/04/2020 11:10

GOV cant test people, supply food, give medical supplies to the nhs, give a true death count or actual advise how do you expect the government to organise cleaning trucks?

Justmuddlingalong · 25/04/2020 11:11

I've wondered this too, OP. No idea though. Perhaps our scientists and health advisors think it's unnecessary/unneeded/ineffective.

dementedpixie · 25/04/2020 11:12

Sounds a bit pointless to me. Are they doing it just so it looks like they're doing something?

nickblainesmistress · 25/04/2020 11:13

Is that you Trump?

KaptenKrusty · 25/04/2020 11:13

Do you have any evidence that that actually does anything??? I saw that footage in China and various people going around spraying the train station floors and the roads?

I thought it looked ridiculous and for show - to make it look like they were doing something... doubt it does much 😂

kimlo · 25/04/2020 11:14

It doesn't work, as soon as someone walks doen the street it might as well not have been done.

The benifits do not outweigh the enviromental effects.

People tend not to lick the street.

CremeEggThief · 25/04/2020 11:19

I saw footage of French cleaners in forensic suits disinfecting the railings and benches in a park on tv, before our lockdown, and wondered why that doesn't happen here.

I think the poor hygiene in this country may well have helped the virus to spread initially. I really, really hope people remain vigilant about proper hand washing, not sneezing and coughing without a tissue or at least a sleeve, and cleaning and disinfecting shared desks at work once restrictions are relaxed.

dementedpixie · 25/04/2020 11:20

Would it not have a detrimental effect on the plant life and on people breathing it in? UV would no doubt help break down the virus outside too

Northernsoullover · 25/04/2020 11:22

I really cannot see the benefits.

SnuggyBuggy · 25/04/2020 11:22

It strikes me as something that might make the public feel better without it being much actual use.

ConcernedAuntie · 25/04/2020 11:22

On our local BBC news (Bristol) they have been having a public health expert on once a week answering questions. This was one of the topics covered a couple of weeks ago. He said it was pure window dressing and a total waste of time. I believe he was one of the people who advised on the last Ebola outbreak. Can't recall his name, it was something like Pankathian.

TimeForChange123 · 25/04/2020 11:30

Because its pointless.

amber763 · 25/04/2020 11:32

Because we don't live in China.

Kokeshi123 · 25/04/2020 11:34

It is likely that spraying will reduce viral load, and VL appears to be a key issue with this virus. I strongly suspect this would help.

Twattergy · 25/04/2020 11:34

Because people pass on covid 19 not pavements

Elouera · 25/04/2020 11:35

Unless you are licking the street or pavement- what is the point???
Even if the handrails are scrubbed, it only takes someone a few seconds later to touch it and re-contaminate. Absolutely pointless!
