Pregnant ladies are you still going shopping

Hi I'm not doing my own shopping I've popped the corner shops and been so lucky with delivery's so far but half of it is usually missing but I make do.
I want to go shopping myself is it worth the risk I'm 20 weeks gone and want to get cake stuff and lamb for dinner and stuff like that what doesn't come with my shop.
Is it safe ? I've been the corner shop and feel anxious I feel people come close to you and things I try to keep my distance but it's hard.
What's your thoughts ?

I’m 36 weeks and have been working from home since 1 week before the lockdown. We get weekly shopping deliveries so I’ve only left the house twice, both times for antenatal appointments.

ArthurandJessie · 25/04/2020 17:09

OP I've not been in a shop since a week or so before lockdown my partner goes in I'm 34 weeks with twins and don't care what anyone says I'm doing what I can to protect my boys hospital appointments only for us!

Floatyboat · 25/04/2020 17:14

Thank you @Raaaa.

On reflection I think some people just don't like hearing comments they disagree with and get wound up and blame the other person for making them feel that way.

If the op wishes to police who is allowed to comment on the thread she should ask to have it moved to the pregnancy board.

ArthurandJessie · 25/04/2020 17:25

@Floatyboat I don't think you said anything wrong like you say your entitled to your opinion but I completely disagree with you ! I'm sure those ladies who are pregnant and still working would love to be at home if their situation allowed :( it's really hard to be pregnant right now I don't think it's unreasonable for OP to be concerned about going to the shops

CrymbleCrumble · 25/04/2020 17:30

In defence of @Floatyboat the op didn't say they had an underlying condition or anything else just that they were pregnant!

Of my icu colleagues have carried on working pregnant, one has isolated but she has health reasons not to work.

Dollywilde · 25/04/2020 17:36

I’m 25 weeks, no underlying health conditions. Since lockdown I have left the house twice, both for pregnancy related reasons, and gone on a 45 min walk every other day in a secluded area. DH is going to the supermarket once a week. While him going risks bringing it back, it seems silly for me to go when I’ve a healthy non pregnant person who is happy to do it. We’re both working full time from home so not other reason to leave the house. Have agreed that barring a miracle cure we’ll try and completely isolate from 38 weeks to avoid the risk of him being turned away from the birth (so basically we’re trying to get to a point where we’ve got a month of food prepped in the freezer in case).

I don’t think it’s a stupid question, if I were single and couldn’t get deliveries obviously I’d go but it minimises harm for me to stay away and I have an alternative option so why would I put DC at risk unnecessarily?

Not been out in 4 weeks not counting one visit to hospital, one midwife and once to the park. Partner had been to pharmacy and do a small shop a few times.

If I had to, I would, but we have been lucky that we both work from home for now.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 25/04/2020 17:47

@Blueberry2020 We haven't been told not to go out at any stage at all. We have been told to take extra precautions.

Maralb · 25/04/2020 18:01

Where I am we have been told only go out for exercise and the whole family self isolate from 38 weeks to reduce the risk of taking it to the hospital.

Sorbet18 · 25/04/2020 18:02

I do think it's confusing because the government did suddenly say that those who are pregnant are now in the vulnerable category and should work from home (and that your employer should support you to do this) and also have someone bring your shopping on your behalf. Not sure if it's changed since but those were the guidelines www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people/guidance-on-social-distancing-for-everyone-in-the-uk-and-protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adults

My midwife is no longer seeing patients face to face as she is also pregnant. I've also been wondering if it would be ok for me to go to the shops this weekend as I haven't been myself for nearly 5 weeks now.

Kcnana · 25/04/2020 18:05

I'm 21 weeks and still going to the shops 😊 Its one of the things keeping me going!

maria860 · 25/04/2020 21:38

@sorbett118 I want to go the supermarket myself as I get specific stuff that never comes in my delivery I guess everyone wants it. I don't want to put myself at risk though I went to the corner shop today to get some milk this morning and touched the handle and then accident touched my mouth to get my hair out of my mouth. So annoyed with myself now for forgetting I'm usually so careful but it's done now.
I think I'm going to leave it see if things calm down a bit fingers crossed things get better it's such a scary time being pregnant with this.
