Shielding - not allowed outside?

Can someone explain the science / logic please, not the rules?

Why can't you sit in your own garden? Why can't you go for a walk where no one else is?

Well there is obviously a reason why those who need to be shielded have been told to stay inside for 12 weeks and not just to stay 2m away from people like the rest of us have been told. Like I said it’s up to you if you want to take the risk.

Rgp is looking into if we should have a letter and will then try and sort deliveries. Getting months worth of news today for babies so won't need that for a while and have tons of DS's. I've sat up night after night trying to get a slot to no avail but hopefully letter will help that, and also with school when it goes back

My two children are shielded. They are toddlers and both have clinical needs so absolutely no way of maintaining any distance. My DH and I have been shielding too. None of us have left the house or garden for 5 weeks now and plan to do this for the full 12 weeks.

It is a massive pain, I can’t see that my eldest would be at massive risk going out the front in his walker once a day but I think about how I would feel if he caught it because I viewed it as low risk and it just isn’t worth it.

Trust me, if I could get food and drugs, I'd stay in

@SleepingStandingUp

Have you registered on the official gov website? Your GP should do a letter in lieu of an official gov one.

We were added for shopping slots after this. I hope you get listed as I can't imagine having the worry of shielding children. We have a little one too.

We have weighed up the risk for our situation but know it is very individual x

Hopefully won't need to go out for a bit so will get it sorted once letter is through. Did a big shop today and have all theeds for a month, bread and milk in freezer as we got a box given us so we have time to sort it. Thank you z

The GP will also be able to refer you to the NHS volunteers scheme and they will facilitate delivery of meds and ad hoc shopping if needed in between/while you wait for access to supermarket slot.
Look on your local Coronavirus Facebook page too for lists of companies and organisations who will deliver to you.
Good luck.
