Does a care home have to go public if they have the virus?

As in the title, if a care home has the virus and staff, do they have to go public confirming that they have it? I'm assuming they shouldn't have to as its a private matter? I guess all the relatives would be informed though and.. Just interested to know how it works?

Go public in what way and for what purpose? As long as the relatives are kept informed and the residents and staff of course, why would they need to make a public declaration? And how? Like inform the media or put a sign up?

No they don't.

We have a few with it in the area we live and they are under no obligation to even tell family members of others who live there!

No they dont. It's rife in care home's and probably all of them have it or will have it at some point.

My grandads care home has confirmed cases and he is now sadly also unwell. The care home called all family’s when cases were confirmed to advise. The consultant working with them had also asked them to discuss DNR with families.

My grandmother tested positive yesterday in her nursing home, they called me to tell me the results but wouldn’t confirm anything else about the situation there, I didn’t think they would anyway.

My dads are home told me of three confirmed cases in his unit yesterday. But I’d phoned them. I don’t know whether they would have warned me if I hadn’t ring first

It's people's personal medical information so no, they don't have to declare it nor do they have to tell family members (though they will likely be contacting the NOK of people who test positive/are unwell). If people were allowed to visit that might be different because of the risk of transmission.

Nans care home:

Early this week: 2 confirmed cases.
Today: 10 deaths. Confirmed cases "We don't know"

Nan: High temperature. Not eating. In bed. Not good.

My sister called last night and asked to talk to her and had the phone put down on her. 🤬
