Are people forgetting we are still in lockdown?

Hi all!
Hope everyone is safe and well!

I don’t know if this is the same for anyone else, but I took my dog for a quick walk over the field today and it was just full of people enjoying the sun - I totally understand going for your daily excercise, but there was families having picnics, groups of people playing football, people on the streets talking to each other who deffo weren’t social distancing! It was like just an ordinary day!

I totally appreciate people are getting fed up, me included and there are many of times I’ve just thought fuck it, il go and visit family/friends but I haven’t. I don’t want to make this whole thing worse.

Is this the same in other home towns or has mine just forgot the situation we are all in?!

I have mentioned my neighbours previously as they frequently have get togethers , usually 4 generations , BBQs , kids running around etc etc . I am not a curtain twitcher but someone usually parks across our drive so I know what’s going on .
I have tried to ignore but one of our neighbours a few houses away died of Covid19 at the weekend and her husband is in hospital so the street has been a bit subdued except for them. Tonight there must have been about 20 people gathered next door They were all out at 8 clapping, cheering etc and seemed oblivious to the general mood .

Greenpop21 · 23/04/2020 23:15

More places reopening I think. Businesses are finding ways of working with fewer staff. Schools are back after Easter.

LilacTree1 · 23/04/2020 23:23

I’m not sure this is real?

If they did this on Westminster Bridge AGAIN, yes, lockdown is over.

I have noticed roads are busier but I think a lot of it is out of necessity: tradespeople are needing to earn money so are probably doing work where they can be isolated, my elderly neighbour went into the city today as she's had enough of being cooped up and "something has to carry me off", and it's getting harder to keep kids cooped up if you're not blessed with a nice house and garden. I'm not going to get worked up about people in parks still respecting social distancing. I think lots more people will start to weigh up the risks, which is what we'll all have to do eventually because lockdown hasn't got rid of the risk, just delayed it.

PickAChew · 23/04/2020 23:34

No different from the new normal, here, apart from the twat behind me in the queue for markses who seemed to think that 2 feet was 2 metres.

Mullikins · 23/04/2020 23:34

Yep roads in my town were pretty busy today. I go out every Thursday to do a shop and there was considerably more traffic on the road today than the previous Thursday. I also went out for a work today and there were a lot of people out and about. I guess it's partly to do with a level of complacency a lot of people will be getting now, partly because of the weather, partly people are sick of being at home. But as long as people are social distancing and following the rules, which everyone I saw today was, then I guess it's ok.

indemMUND · 23/04/2020 23:35

You can't argue with stupid, more's the pity.

TheGreatWave · 23/04/2020 23:39

These threads always leave me scratching my head, poster after poster critical / bewildered about others doing the same as what they are doing.

Tr1skel1on · 23/04/2020 23:44

@Rebootingagain can't wait for tomorrow! Knew straight away where you were from when I saw your post. I'm by a remote beach but I can't wait to go to tesco :)

BilboBercow · 23/04/2020 23:46

It's fine for people to go back to work. In fact it's a good thing.

Rebootingagain · 24/04/2020 00:18

@ Tr1skel1on

Nice username.

I also love pretty remotely. We will be heading out for a decent drive tomorrow and a picnic somewhere quiet. Have barely left the house for about six weeks and then it’s mainly been on foot for our limited exercise.

Driving everywhere at 40 will be off though, would normally top 100 over the mountain but rules is rules for now.

Stay safe

We were in the local park today and it was so busy. Police were cycling around and didn't say anything, other than friendly hello to the kids, but it did look like they were ensuring everyone was obeying the 2m rule which they were. Car park was empty so local families.

BatsEars · 24/04/2020 00:28

Smile
Our pm is recovering after almost dying and being in intensive care with Covid 19. He's recovering as anyone else who has been seriously unwell would be.

In terms of ' leadership' the daily briefing at 5pm can't spell it out any more for you on what you need to be doing and where we are at in terms of the pandemic in the uk.

Seriously, anyone would think you are deliberately causing agitation.

SnydeValley · 24/04/2020 00:35

I'm planning on going to the park with the kids tomorrow and letting them have a play. Might take the iPad and actually try to get some work done because I still have bills to pay.

They've done long enough now and they're not the ones dying. They deserve to spend some time playing in the sunshine just as much as kids with gardens.

Frownette · 24/04/2020 00:40

Not here; I had a tradesperson round and we kept to separate rooms.

Then for my walk I went to the hardware store first, where they were strict about customers keeping to different aisles, and corner shop on way back where again distance was observed. I make sure not to pick anything up unless I'm sure I'm going to buy it.

Lots more people taking a walk but looked like households rather than social meeting, again distance observed from other parties.

Nobody wants to catch a bad case of it or pass it on to others.

Rebootingagain · 24/04/2020 00:44

Nobody wants to catch a bad case of it or pass it on to others.

True, but you can’t catch a bad case.

You get infected or you don’t. Many will never know, some will have mild symptoms that don’t impact their day to day life, some will struggle in bed at home, a small number will be hospitalised, and an even smaller number will die - mainly those who were already ill or vulnerable in some other way.

BatShite · 24/04/2020 01:17

Same here, and has been for a week or so. Most were following strictly for 3 weeks or so, then announcement was made its extended, and poof, whole street went back to 'normal'..was really weird how it all happened at once! We are still distancing, but seem to be in the minority and starting to wonder whats the bloody point tbh. Have to go to shop, and people literally walking into you, who have been at bbqs in the street all day, etc.

GreenTulips · 24/04/2020 01:17

They’ve discussed the possibility of virus overload, young doctors and nurses are over exposed so pick up a larger dose. So suffer more.

It’s a possibility.

Frownette · 24/04/2020 01:19

@Rebootingagain, well, this is true Grin

But you know what I mean, no-one wants a really bad case of COVID-19 where they're in severe pain at home or hospitalised

BatShite · 24/04/2020 01:22

If they did this on Westminster Bridge AGAIN, yes, lockdown is over.

Also yes to this. I keep seeing videos posted weekly of huge crowds of people, not 2m between them at all either, all hanging around dancing and cheering outwside our local hospital. And those who throw a fit about a picture of someone sunbathing will post these videos/images with 'how amazing

HeIenaDove · 24/04/2020 03:03

It happened AGAIN. FFS!

Figmentofmyimagination · 24/04/2020 06:18

Well I cycled to the bank yesterday to pay in a huge cheque refunding my annual season ticket loan and the town centre was very empty, the bank, hsbc, was locked and I had to wait for a staff member to open the door so I could explain my business before being allowed in. Virtually empty inside. Very kind staff. Surreal experience. Definitely not back to normal.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/04/2020 06:27

I haven't seen anything like this. I take DS to our local park every day and it's dead.

Roads are probably busier because people are going back to work. Which is good, the government can't pay furlough forever. My workplace is making a plan on how to reopen soon if they can implement social distancing.
