Nicotine patches and covid

There has been some research in France and China that suggests smokers are much less likely to be hospitalised from coronavirus. There is currently a trial on healthcare workers in France to see if there is a protective element to using nicotine patches. I was wondering if it might be a good idea to buy some as I work on a hospital ward with basic PPE? What are people’s thoughts. I’m a non smoker.

If you work in a hospital, wouldn't someone there be better to advise you?

Well it’s new research. I would be embarrassed to ask.

If you do decide to get patches, being a non-smoker, you would be best off getting the lowest strength patches.
