Dumbest question ever for science people

Please forgive my massive ignorance but I have been musing this over and wanted a science opinion.

If soap can kill the virus, can this not be injected somehow into the body to kill what is internal? (Yes I know how stupid I sound)

It's pretty scary that anyone would think injecting disinfectant into the human body is a good idea. But the really scary part of this is that that man is president of the USA.

You couldn't make it up.

I have an unopened bottle of Dettol I'm prepared to donate to Trump if he wants to try out his idea.(on himself!)

binkyboinky · 24/04/2020 12:44

Are you Trump?!

CaptainMerica · 24/04/2020 12:47

This is a stupid idea. However, I've heard good things about sunlight. Maybe we should all lie on sunbeds until we turn orange.

(I'm not a doctor, you understand. Just someone with good ideas about orangeness)

Donald, keep those tiny fingers away from MN !

Trump is a free thinker. Like Newton. That’s science for you.

The next phase is to back up his science.

Most of the posters on here will believe in magic. That’s truly weird.

The virus will be defeated by something much stranger than trump is suggesting. A targeted molecular attack squad within the body. It’s kind of like what he is trying to say.

Good for him.

Redpurplegreen · 24/04/2020 13:51

Viruses infect/hijack your cells, so are you planning on killing all your cells?

thejollygargler · 24/04/2020 15:13

What Trump said is beyond stupid, but I have now seen a news report saying that in the US the manufacturers of disinfectant products have had to issue a warning telling people that it is not a cure for CV. Absolutely beggars belief Sad

I do love it when a meme I have saved is appropriate Grin

@Iamamoleinahole Confused the man is a lunatic. His cult following aren't thinking about science. He's not thinking about science. He's talking absolute shite.

pigsDOfly · 25/04/2020 14:48

Now it's being reported that Trump was being 'sarcastic' about the disinfectant.

Although, I'm not sure that if he wasn't being serious 'sarcastic' is actually the correct word to use about someone making this sort of wry joke.

However, if you watch the footage from the briefing it's absolutely clear he isn't trying to be witty. But, dear god, if he were, surely that's even more horrifying.

It's one thing the president of USA being and out and out ignorant fool, but if he's standing up at a serious briefing and making stupid jokes to his scientific advisers about a pandemic that is killing thousands of people world wide, well, I think USA is in even more trouble than we previously thought.
