Tesco. A shopping card?

I’m trying to keep on top of food deliveries for my elderly parents who live at the other end of the country.

They are sorted for major food deliveries-hopefully.

Their neighbour is happy to buy them bits such as bread and milk when she does her weekly shop. My mum has been giving her cash. It would be better if I could download some of my parents money onto a card which they can give to the neighbour. I know other supermarkets do something like this but I can’t find anything on Tesco’s.

I know Tesco used to do a student card which would work. I could have one of the cards and top it up and they would have the other half of the pair to give to the neighbour.

They don’t do online banking. I’m not sure if I can persuade them to start by me doing it for them. That would probably be easier still.

Thanks

Can't you just transfer money to the neighbour's bank account?

Much easier than messing about with store cards.

Get them a Monzo card. You can manage it for them if they are not tech-literate. You can preload a certain amount of money and then it can be given to the neighbour. You'll be able to track on the app how much is being spent and when/where.

Either prepay card or set up paypal

I really wouldn't mess about with cards.

If the neighbour is kind enough to shop for your parents, they need the money back in the bank/as cash - not tied to cards in bits and pieces so as to be almost no use at all.

I can’t see why it’s needed tbh? Can’t you just bank transfer. I think the cards are aimed at when it’s a stranger (volunteer) doing it.

I can transfer money from my bank account yes. But I can’t get the money from my parents bank to my bank account because they don’t bank online.

I did a large shop for my parents on my pay day. They refunded the money by posting me a cheque. The post isn’t great, things aren’t arriving and getting stamps isn’t easy. It’s not easy for me to pay a cheque in.

The neighbours are getting the money back in cash. Which they can’t use as no one is accepting cash. My parents will run out of cash eventually.
Prepay cars sounds good. The sort of thing a child would start out with?
It’s so difficult when they don’t want any financial links online. It’s not just that they can’t do it themselves. It’s that they are worried about fraud. It’s always worked fine for them so far.
Thanks.

Does it have to be Tesco. Sainsbury's now do a volunteer card

It does have to be Tesco Im afraid as that is the local shop where the neighbour is going. The Sainsbury’s card looks good and if Tesco did one it would be perfect. There isn’t a Sainsburys within a reasonable distance though.

@OneHippoOnThePhone that's a shame. Hope you find a solution

I know it’s not the point of your thread, but just to let you know most banks let you pay in cheques through their apps now. You just take a picture of the front and back, and it usually clears pretty quickly.

OneHippoOnThePhone · 22/04/2020 15:23

That’s really useful myneighbour.Thanks.

My bank doesn’t have this function but my partners does. He could then transfer the money to me. Brill!
