Coronavirus twice?

Does anyone know if the virus can come back? Ds most likely had it at the end of February. He lives in a place where there are a huge amount of cases.
Dd got a terrible cough and slight temp at the same time as he came home on the third day. (Probably wasn’t the best idea but he couldn’t cope on his own and at the time nhs were saying to only be concerned if you’ve been in touch with anyone who’s recently been to China)
I got a day or two of the most awful headache but nothing else.

Exactly one month later, he developed what I thought was bad hayfever. He usually gets it but it’s different this year. Much more in the nose than eyes. Then the cough started. Dry, constant. It’s been about three weeks now. I was thinking maybe asthma triggered by allergies. He’s fine in himself. I’m just wondering whether this virus can come back..

So many unknowns. It’s really annoying not knowing.

So did he actually have symptoms the first time though? You mention Dd symptoms but not his

FaithInfinity · 22/04/2020 10:12

The truth is they’re not sure if having it once makes you immune. I’ve read there’s about 4 different strains as well. But if you’re saying he’s more nasal, I would think it’s more likely allergies. Have you tried him with an antihistamine at night? I have hay fever, they reckon it’s the worst it’s been in years!

Realitea · 22/04/2020 10:56

Looneytune- sorry, yes he had all the symptoms. It started with a rash, he felt tired and had aches, temperature nearly 39, terrible headache and sore throat, photophobia (I few people I know who’ve had it and been tested also had this) and a slight cough. It lasted about five days but then he’s young and healthy. The only thing that persisted was night sweats
Dd had a slight temp and awful cough which lasted two weeks
I just had the worlds worst headache for two days. I wish we could’ve been tested.
Dh got no symptoms

FaithInfinity, I think you’re right about the hayfever. People are really suffering this year. He’s been prescribed a strong antihistamine. 111 said it has to be coronavirus because he’s coughing. GP said the opposite and said because of the nasal problems and the fact he’s very allergic to everything it must be hayfever!

I don't think from those symptoms alone you can be sure it was cv to be fair.

Realitea · 22/04/2020 11:03

No.. it’s so hard to tell. However it did start after staying with family who had just returned from Italy Confused I didn’t even know they’d been until we were there and they'd said. we also all went out to eat at busy places in Birmingham a few times that week. It does make you wonder

I think in this instance 111 may well be wrong...Hmm but advice would be to treat it as though it’s CV19 just in case because obviously he could potentially be contagious. My hay fever started when I was about 9, I just had a persistent cough. GP diagnosed me with ‘asthma from hay fever ‘ and inhalers helped.

There are so-called "relapsed cases" in South Korea, about 170, 61 of whom were symptomatic again. They don't know if it's re-infection or re-activation ie the virus is somehow persistent, lies dormant and then re-activates. You can read about it on the KCDC website.
There are also cases in China - people who are recovered but keep testing positive. See this Reuters article

Thanks, I’ll take a look
I think they were talking about it on Jeremy vine earlier too.

It’s impossible to know because you can’t know yet whether he’s had it at all (which is very frustrating!)

I will say that my hay fever is very bad this year and I’ve felt as though I’ve had a blocked nose/sinus feeling for several weeks. My eyes are fine.
