I know BAME people have a higher death rate in both the UK and US, is this true of other countries as well? Does anybody know why this is?

There was this one OP.

There will be a number of contributory factors, but it ain’t for me to answer..

That seems the most likely working hypothesis but I think it's worth pointing out that the data is not there yet. Other possible non-medical factors include:

  • Higher concertration of minority ethnicities in high population density areas with higher rates of the illness.
  • Higher numbers in health and caring professions.
  • Cultural differences around physical contact, diet and multi-generational households.
  • Higher rates of poverty and disadvantage.

Men seem to be dying at a much greater rate as well. I've heard one theory that this is because women have two x chromosomes and provides fro a better immune response.
