Would you book a UK holiday for September?

As per title really? Supposed to be going to Menorca but can't see it happening so thinking of booking something uk based for the same 2 weeks as the annual leave is already booked off.

nope

not a chance!

Yellowbutterfly1 · 21/04/2020 17:13

Only if I was guaranteed my money back if there were to be another lockdown.
People who have/had holidays booked in the UK are having exactly the same problems with cancellations and not being able to get their money back as people who had holidays booked abroad.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 21/04/2020 17:13

Really? I was thinking by September uk based travel will be happening again and if not we just lose £100 deposit

My main worry was upsetting locals in the area we might visit

Namesgonenow · 21/04/2020 17:14

I wouldn’t book any holiday anywhere for 2020.

Sennetti · 21/04/2020 17:15

where were you thinking of? the season generally would be stating to wind down by then

thats if we are allowed normal travel and the holiday companies have survived

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 21/04/2020 17:20

We love UK holidays in less than ideal weather so thats less of a consideration. Happy wandering in rain etc

At the moment its more a 'shall we go for it' and haven't thought about where.

Just get a holiday cottage then we are pretty self sufficient. We've accepted the loss on the overseas trip but luckily booked when the company was doing incredibly low deposits

But maybe its wishful thinking even UK based trips will be happening

We had 3 holidays booked, 2 involving flights, this summer and I know they will all be cancelled.
I have booked 2 seperate weeks away in this country, one in August, one in September.
BUT for both of them, no deposit is being taken until travel restrictions are lifted and the balance to,be paid 7 days before the start of holiday.
I dont expect to be going tbh, but at least have them ready and waiting if things do change.
So yes, book, but only if you wont lose any money!

beela · 21/04/2020 17:26

Nope.

Even if restrictions are lifted, they might have to be reintroduced again.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/04/2020 17:26

No. I don't think anyone would want us even if we were allowed.

MarshaBradyo · 21/04/2020 17:28

I wouldn’t book anything atm.

TobyeBella · 21/04/2020 17:28

We've got already booked uk breaks in end of June and August.

I'm so hopeful we'll be able to go, especially as we've had a holiday cancelled already, but I wouldn't be booking anything new.

Thighmageddon · 21/04/2020 17:29

Didn't one of the ministers say it's not advisable to book any holidays at the moment?

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 21/04/2020 17:34

They did say tht i believe @thighmageddon i think they're worried about people getting angry at lost money

We arent so worried about the deposit, more upsetting people. We live nearish a touristy area and I'd hate to be those people we've been moaning about

But then i also think if we can get something like @vicbarbarkley with a tiny or no deposit we have nothing to lose and if it doesnt feel right then we just don't go (regardless of its actually allowed)

OP posts:
Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 21/04/2020 17:35

I mean NOT travel if it is permitted if it feels wrong just to clarify

CoughKeepsOnComing · 21/04/2020 17:36

Is Menorca in the UK now? Wow, coronavirus really has changed the world!!

puffinandkoala · 21/04/2020 17:36

I had a UK trip booked for May half term which I've postponed until the last week of the summer holidays - if we can't go then I'll just write off the deposit.

I'm not booking anything else until things become clearer.

Spodge · 21/04/2020 17:38

I wouldn't. If you have the time off then book last minute. Seems unwise to commit to anything right now.

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 21/04/2020 17:39

Im saying we've accepted the Menorca trip is a gonna?! Wondering about booking UK instead @coughkeepsoncoming

Sorry if that wasn't clear

OP posts:
CoughKeepsOnComing · 21/04/2020 17:40

Ah I see!! :) Sorry!! (And slightly disappointed as we have an overseas holiday booked for September and in the back of my mind, had hoped it might still go ahead!)

CoughKeepsOnComing · 21/04/2020 17:41

I blame the wine!!! ;)

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 21/04/2020 17:43

Don't make me jealous, home alone with a toddler and heavily pregnant.....wine sounds wonderful

gegs73 · 21/04/2020 17:47

I would, as long as you put a smallish deposit down and pay the remainder really close to the time if you can go. I’ve booked a week holiday for the end of July in the UK about 2 weeks ago in case the restrictions are lifted. I spoke to the owners of the property and will get my deposit back if we can’t go so I’m not going to lose anything. If restrictions are lifted in UK holiday towns/throughout the country, people are going to make day trips here there and everywhere even if they don’t stay overnight. People from outside the area are going to go anyway.

CoughKeepsOnComing · 21/04/2020 18:33

Sending you a virtual wine (no calories and can be consumed while pregnant!!) ... 🍷

Vicbarbarkley · 21/04/2020 18:35

@Bubblesbubblesmybubbles on fb I belong to a group called (something like) dog friendly accommodation. If you are really interested, let me know and I will find the right name.
It is for dog owners to find places that will accommodate them, but you dont have to have a dog to go there!
There are quite a few people offering that option now, so worth a think about.
I would not pay any deposits for any holiday this year, but if restrictions are lifted, i will be going.
