I think I might have a cough?

But I’m not sure, I am doubting myself so much.

I would say that about 5 times a day I cough 5/7 times. As in “cough, cough, cough, cough, cough” and that’s it for a few hours. It’s because I have an irritating tickle low down in my throat. It’s worse when I lay down at night but doesn’t wake me up and I’m not coughing in my sleep.

Other symptoms are my back hurts where my lungs are and my chest feels slightly tight and burning.

But I feel well in myself, no fever, not tired or getting chills, I can taste as normal. I’m pretty much isolating anyway and DH is working from home, does my cough sound like it would class as persistent?

I think if it’s a cough that you don’t usually have, and it’s hanging about for a few days, then that’s maybe persistent? I think the tight burny lungs would suggest you should isolate.
I had two weeks of symptoms, some still lingering in week four now. But I never had a temperature or chills, or aches, and I barely coughed. But I had no taste/smell, tight chest, burning lungs, tiredness, lack of appetite and a headache. I wasn’t tested but I had been in contact with a positive case so I’m assuming I’ve had it...

your symptoms sound pretty similar to my colleagues at the start. He tested positive and felt pretty rotten for around a week, maybe slightly more, with a fever, body aches and breathlessness, none of which he had initially.

He’s now better and back at work.

Mrsemcgregor · 21/04/2020 18:13

Thank you

It’s been about 24 hours, I don’t like to overreact when I feel fairly well but the last thing I want it to under react and potentially pass it on. I wasn’t likely to go out but I’ll make sure we all isolate.

I though maybe hay fever but my nose and eyes are completely normal so I’m not hopeful.

By throat and lungs have that feeling you would have after a night singing loudly in a smokey nightclub and a few B&H in 1997.

If I have picked it up I’m bloody unlucky, I’ve been out twice in 4 weeks, both brief trips to the corner shop and I was so so careful with what I touched and hand hygiene.

Ugh, sorry about the typos.

It does sound like you’ve been pretty unlucky if you have caught it.

I was sure I’d catch it from my colleague. He was coughing right next to me in a fairly confined space.

I think I’ve been lucky. It’s been two weeks now and I feel ok.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

The cough has been getting worse Sad now I feel unwell too. I am worried I’ve already passed this on to my husband and kids. Fuck.

No point in worrying about having passed it on. We had something going round the house and isolated ourselves but also tried to isolate people who felt ill.
Someone in your family may have had no symptoms and passed it to you. Nothing you could have done differently. Don't feel bad.
Also the virus will still be there in a few weeks or months whenever lockdown loosens. No guarantees of avoiding it long term.

Thank you,

My cough was awful in the night, couldn’t stop for hours. Continuous coughing which has left me a bit sore and tired today.

No fever and not feeling particularly poorly. Definitely not “big sick”.

I wonder if this is covid, how annoying that it might be years before I know, if ever!

I had a fever yesterday afternoon and lost my sense of smell. I followed the online 111 service and it asked for my number so a nurse could call back. Within 30 minutes a covid response dr called and listened to my symptoms, I had a massive coughing fit on the phone and he said he was pretty certain it’s covid.

He said the most important thing in early stages is rest and fluids. He said try not to do anything at all, complete rest. He said it gives your immune system the best chance of beating it. He also said that the majority of people who get into “a pickle” (his words!) were suffering from renal problems.

Anyway I’m only posting incase anyone else finds this helpful or reassuring or whatever. I feel sore, my lungs are on fire but I’ve definitely felt worse before with things like tonsillitis and bronchitis. Fingers crossed for me it will stay that way.

It’s also unlike any other illness I’ve had, nothing like a cold. I’ve never had flu so can’t compare it to that.

I'm glad you have sought help op. I wish you a speedy recovery with no complications.

Wankerchief · 25/04/2020 19:22

Weird question I know but does eating and drinking feel off without taste and smell? Our senses usually ar e the enjoyment of a meal and I truly can't imagine what it's like!

Mrsemcgregor · 25/04/2020 20:20

Oddly I can still taste but can’t smell so my sense of taste is dulled but still there? We did a test today, I couldn’t smell my perfume with the bottle right up my nose, I couldn’t smell vinegar or bacon but I could smell marmite!! It’s so weird, I guess it must effect different receptors?

I'm glad you got a call back but a bit jealous. When I was ill about 5 weeks ago there wasn't even a sniff of a callback. 111 website just said manage at home.
However sounds like you were very unlucky to catch it now. Hope you get better soon.

Keepdistance · 25/04/2020 20:49

Maybe up your vit D. Get some sunshine without burming. And eat vit d rich foods eggs/salmon/tuna etc

SirVixofVixHall · 25/04/2020 20:55

Hope you recover quickly OP.

incognitomum · 25/04/2020 21:00

Aw how unlucky. I hope you don't get any worse.

Mrsemcgregor · 25/04/2020 21:03

MajesticWhine hopefully that’s a sign that the services aren’t as overwhelmed as they were 5 weeks ago and new infections are down? How are you now?

Thanks for the Vit D tip Keepdistance, I am taking a multivitamin but will make sure I get natural sources too.

OP posts:
MajesticWhine · 26/04/2020 22:12

I am completely fine thanks OP. I was a bit scared at the time though.
How are you? Hope you are recovering and over the worst now.
