DD9 born early prem. Is she more at risk?

My DD was born at 26 weeks. Ventilator and then CPAP.
She hasn't needed to ever go back into hospital or doctors for lung issues. She's 9 now. Very healthy.

Someone mentioned to me that she will have scarring in her lungs and I should be shielding her.

I feel like a terrible Mum. Obviously she is not going out anywhere but I still need to work.

I've tried phoning doctors but receptionist said they would call me back and that was a week ago (obv haven't chased, they are busy enough).

Does anyone have any advice?

I would love to know exactly the same @sarane - dts are 9, 31 weekers, also ventilated and then cpap. They are fine now but did have a lot of chest infections and croup when they were younger.

I can't get a call back from my GP either.

My dd wasn’t prem but had a congenital heart defect that led to her being on cpap once and ventilated twice (2nd time after surgery to repair the defect, first time with a cold) as a baby. She had the surgery at 6 months and has been in fantastic health ever since, but has had a couple of chest infections. I haven’t been told to shield her, but I am wondering whether I should.

Sorry - she’s 10 now.

Watching this thread just in case.

I was a very prem (15 weeks) baby - had a collapsed lung/was on a ventilator etc. I also have had asthma for the last ten years

I realise it was a long time ago Hmm, but it's been worrying me a bit.

We’re in the same position - vent, cpap leading to a grade IV ivh. We haven’t been sent any letters and in the last ten years I’ve heard some say that means chronic lung disease for life and others say no.
My daughter hasn’t had any issues apart from a collapsed lung during a seizure, but her epilepsy has been the biggest issue during her life , not her lungs.

Not a scooby but I’m tending to think not

My DS wasnt prem but was ventilated at 4 weeks then cpap for 2 weeks. Hes had ongoing issues since then. 5 months now and lung still hasn't reinflated. I've spoken to his consultant recently and he said he is vulnerable but not in the shielding group.

Thanks for all your experiences. I feel a bit more relaxed about it now.
I'm near Birmingham and it seems to be pretty bad in our area.

My DS7 was a 27 weeker. Vent and CPAP. When he left hospital I was given a huge talk about his chronic lung disease and this would be an issue for the rest of his life. He's healthy now and never really had an issue with his chest, apart from an inhaler during winter until he was about 4. We've not had anything Re shielding him, but it does worry me.
