Do you think you'll still have a job at the end of this?

I work in UK tourism and I think I will be made redundant if this continues longer into the summer. My company is clinging on right now, but lack of cash flow is going to be a huge problem in a few weeks. We've furloughed virtually all staff - there's just a couple of us keeping things going on a day to day basis. My boss, the company owner, will not take out any govt backed business loans, so it's just a matter of time I think. Usually the company is viable and profitable, so this feels like a real kick in the teeth. Feeling quite despondent tonight.

Yes, I'm a healthcare assistant in an NHS hospital. Not the most glamorous or well paid job, but I'll still have it.

I am not so sure. I feel I will be very lucky if I will have survived this with my health and my job intact.. Dh's job is definitely at risk as his company are furloughing tens of people every week..

I’m a house keeper. I still have my job and will do when this is all over and so will my husband. I’m totally aware at how lucky we are

I worry about my job. I am furloughed but work in events. It will be a bloody miracle if I have a job at end of this, simply due to cash flow or rather lack of it

I’m worried about my brother in law who has a job that depends entirely on air travel.

I’m a partner in an accountancy firm and work in a niche area. I expect to still have a job.

My husband owns a hospitality business, he has been saved by the furlough scheme, but if the scheme is not extended Further and bars can’t open until Christmas, he is unlikely to have a job/business

I'm in the same boat as you OP. No summer season will cripple the company I work at, and if there is another wave in the winter affecting the Christmas season it's game over.

Feeling very down and depressed about it, especially as I love my job and took me ages to find one I enjoyed and didn't give me terrible anxiety. It would be so easy for them to get rid of me as I've been there under a year too

Not in the UK. My job is a funded project so Im ok, but I work at a jobcenter so my case load is probably going to increase.

I work in Financial Services. Will probably still have a job but been told to expect pay cuts unless markets pick up. Prob be a 10-15% cut I reckon.

strawberryFizzyDrink it sounds like you do a similar line of work to me. I think we'd get through if we knew there was an end to this. It's the uncertainty that's the killer.

I've been looking at jobs this evening and there's not much about here. We're in a part of the country which is pretty reliant on tourism at the best of times and the job market isn't looking great at the moment obviously. Wages are also generally low even when times are good.

No currently furloughed doubt I will return. Bit worried about the state of the economy to get another job in too! But sticking with the furlough and trying not to think about it

It interesting that.according to loads on Mumsnet it is a “holiday”. Yet every other holiday I had did not involve a deadly disease and a high chance of not having a job to go back with so feels a bit different to me!

I probably won't have a job come December when our charity funding is up for renewal. I imagine charities will be hard hit although we are funded by a big one.

I’ve already lost mine. DH has been on tenterhooks as he’s only been helping in a project which is due to end shortly. He got word today he’s been transferred to a project that has funding until December. No clue as to the role etc.. just a message to contact a certain person and ask them what they want him to do.

I work for the NHS so should be ok, but I'm in a training role so could be cut as i suspect there'll be years more of austerity and anything less than immediate front line will be squeezed.

dh is in construction so looking gloomy. It's a huge worry.

I'm not sure. It depends on how long we're forced to stay closed and what business is like when we open up again. We do our biggest trading over the winter months so this is the best time for us to be closed really but I don't know if the business will survive.

What makes it even sadder is that the company I work for is a small family run business and they've been very successful under normal circumstances. They've been going for nearly 40 years.

I work in hospitality and I am not so sure I will have a job at the end of this. I can’t see everyone rushing back to stay in hotels even after June. I suspect my company will survive but cuts will be made.

I work for a bank helping vulnerable customers over the phone with their banking needs... the forgotten key workers!

I'm a social worker so I will be fine.

DH should also be fine as his work has not dried up and he can wfh no probs.

We are very lucky.

I work for the NHS, admin in a hospital. For the next few months I’ll be fine but our department has been under the process of restructuring over the past two years and the end result of that will mean a lot less work, so I don’t know towards the latter part of the year. I can’t see there being enough work for all of us.

I really wanted to drop my hours from full time to 3 or 4 days but I won’t be asking any time soon now. DH income stopped overnight.

We will, I work in head office of a pharmacy chain so we are still trading. My specific role is very quiet at the moment but will go back to 'normal' at some point.
DH works for a tool hire company, they've furloughed some staff but his job is still busy. For how long depends how long construction/builders can carry on working though.

We are very fortunate, and I am extremely grateful.

@quertyuiop100 I think the uk tourism industry will boom once lockdown is lifted, so as long as your boss can stay afloat for a few months hopefully you'll be ok. Think it'll be a while before people will want or be able to fly abroad.

I’m in the extremely vulnerable/shielding group and the press are saying our group may be locked down to August 2021. I’lol definitely be losing my jobs if that happens.

My jobs safe. I work in a huge financial office and we are just as busy now as before and working from home.

I work as a uni lecturer. Nursing. As long as they need nurses I will remain employed. I'm working from home at the moment though and only with first years as we have redeployed the other years into the nhs and social care.
