Why won't the government just discuss an exit plan?

I know it's probably because of the risk of people hearing the bits they want to hear, prematurely giving up on social distancing etc etc but the absolute uncertainty is completely soul destroying

There’s a whole thread on this!

Wtfdoipick · 19/04/2020 17:23

But the situation is uncertain. What is it that you are looking for from the exit strategy?

201920202021a · 19/04/2020 17:27

Just some transparency on what strategy they are looking at - be that ramped up testing and contact tracing, apps, combined with waves of restrictions, whatever

Some vague idea of what they are considering and what drawbacks there are etc. We all know what some of these might be but it not being discussed at all shrouds everything in secrecy and makes the bleak even bleaker

Businesses need some idea of how to plan

I don't think it's a secret it's just they have to play it day to day .
I'm sure they do have contingency plans but there is no point in mentioning because people will take it as gospel and things may change .
I get that you want to make plans and move on who doesn't but I'm thinking that soon it will be over and every day is closer to things going back to normal .

Hagisonthehill · 19/04/2020 17:37

Because they don't know.
We have to loosen it a bit but without causing a big peak in cases so we need to have current levels down which seems to be happening slowly.
We have 3 weeks to assess all the data and watch what is happening in the contries ahead of us easing their lockdowns.
What ever we do lots of people will be unhappy.

missfliss · 19/04/2020 17:38

Is agree OP. They totally know how, just not exactly when since Greg are looking at multiple indicators.

alloutoffucks · 19/04/2020 17:40

Because things are changing all the time.
We are several weeks behind other countries. We should learn from watching what they do and whether it works or not.
Because the scientists are still learning about this virus.
Saying they should have a clear exit plan at the moment is like rushing up to paramedics assessing a patient and demanding they have a clear treatment plan for the patient.
Getting this right matters.

bongsuhan · 19/04/2020 17:43

Your government couldn't exit its way out of a paper bag, good luck with having a 'strategy'. Classic Dom.

201920202021a · 19/04/2020 17:47

Of course they can't have a concrete exit plan, everything is far too uncertain. What I'm referring to is a discussion of options on the table and what the current indications are.

Perhaps you are right and it's expecting too much.

On a personal level I've gone from resilient and constructive to feeling utterly defeated over two days. I'm pregnant so it's probably just hormones. I'm probably just selfishly hoping for some hope that nobody can give.

Even if restrictions are lifted I'd probably need to stay in by then anyway until baby arrives so I suppose it's all irrelevant.

Irrelevant to me that is! I very much hope that others can be relieved a little and continue with their lives even if I stay in!

TopBitchoftheWitches · 19/04/2020 17:59

Because it's too soon, no one knows what's going to happen yet. Not that hard to understand really.

They can't possibly know what the situation will be in a month's time can they? They won't know if the tracing app works, they won't know if testing works or how many tests they can perform, they won't know what treatments work best, they won't know how close we are to a vaccine. Completely pointless to try to forecast the facts, and without the facts, they can't give any idea as to what the plan will be.

missfliss · 19/04/2020 18:01

Yes this ^

Polly02 · 19/04/2020 18:02

Because they haven’t got one.

201920202021a · 19/04/2020 18:21

I think a forecast is completely different to a transparent discussion

OP posts:
Sosadandempty · 19/04/2020 18:23

Because they are as lost as we are I think. Not reassuring.
