My dc school/teachers have been fantastic through all this!

I see so many teacher bashing threads on here I wanted to add my own positive story.

I have 4dc in school split between primary and high school. The oldest ones have just got on with their own thing and contact has been limited with the teachers but I know who to contact if I need to.

The primary school though has been amazing, right from the week before lockdown when things were starting to get serious they were on the ball putting procedures in place for keeping the children safe and keeping us all informed over different platforms.

The last day of school the teachers were visibly upset but still taking time to talk to everyone who needed reassurance.

Since then we've been sent work out every Friday to be handed back the following Friday. Everything is personalised to each child and any work we send in is a acknowledgement and marked with little personal notes sent back to the children.

I honestly could not praise them anymore and even though I have said thank you numerous times I hope I can find some way to show how I've appreciated them during this time.

They must be working crazy hours just now, I was in bed last night when some work was marked and returned to me.

So for any teachers reading who get fed up of how people talk about them on here please know there is people like me who can't praise you high enough.

I feel the same. Mine don't provide loads of work, but they do give options, meaning that parents can decide if and how much they want their children to work. Plus, I now realise how difficult it is for teachers. I am buying a huge box of chocolates for the staffroom when this is all done...

ineedaholidaynow · 17/04/2020 17:28

I am not a teacher but a school governor. Please feed this back to your schools.

In my experience many of the staff in my schools are going over and beyond their normal duties, including delivering food to families. They care so much about their pupils.

stressedmum95 · 17/04/2020 17:36

Our school hasn't been providing loads of work either which is great when you have a few dc to go through everything with. We get tasks sent out and there is different options on how to complete it. There line has been to read as much as we can and do what we can work wise but it's more important to make sure the children are happy and having fun. I'll definitely be writing letters to everyone when we go back and hope they feel appreciated. I think a lot of it is to do with our headteacher. She is obviously a really good leader.

Thank you for this - I’m really pleased you and your children feel supported.

I’ll add to the positivity - I’m a teacher. My SLT - particularly my Head - have been phenomenal, under mind blowingly difficult circumstances.

CoughKeepsOnComing · 17/04/2020 21:06

I feel the same. I wish I k ew how to thank my children's wonderful school, but I just don't know how to show my appreciation (wish I could win the lotto then donate a shit load of money!)

TwigTheWonderKid · 17/04/2020 21:19

Another governor here. Please do take a second to contact the school to tell them.

Teachers and SLT have had a hard time of it for such a long time and it says so much about their professionalism and vocation that in these difficult and extraordinary circumstances, when they have had so little support, that they are doing everything they can to keep children's eduction going whilst doing everything they can to help and support vulnerable students and their families.

I'm hoping DC schools will put better things in place from the start of term next week. Until now all we've had are generic links to websites that we could easily find ourselves (BBC bitesize etc) but no guidance as to what they would have been working on if at school Confused

HappyLemonSadLemon · 17/04/2020 21:28

Thank you for posting this. There are so many of us working so hard to get everything together for "return to school" for next week and it's been a real challenge trying to get everything as accessible as we can. It won't be perfect next week but we are all learning on the job and many of us have not had an Easter break at all; this has all been behind the scenes.

Ledkr · 17/04/2020 21:31

I agree. Ours has been amazing too.
There is a Padlet for them to chat to friends and teachers and they set work through that. They can also share fun stuff that they have done and the teachers comment.
Even more impressive is dds stage class which she attends weekly. Theu have switched to zoom classes of 1.5 hours as well as regular feedback on stuff the children post such as songs or dances.
My dd looks forward to her classes each week and appreciates yhe normality of it all.
Im very touched by the efforts made by all.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 17/04/2020 21:31

Thank you for this. I've never seen so much vitriol directed towards teachers in my life as I have on Mumsnet and it really upsets me and makes me wonder if this is genuinely how most people feel. I work incredibly long hours and put so much effort into my job it is absolutely soul destroying to read some of the nastiness and spite on here.

Mc2020 · 17/04/2020 21:36

So have mine! Daily emails with work uploaded to a cloud based platform with lots of options and continuity. I had thanked her directly but hadn’t thought to contact the school - I absolutely will do that now!

Breckenridged · 17/04/2020 21:37

I’ll add to this. My daughter is in P1 (Scotland). Her teacher has been amazing - work set daily, feedback daily, lovely messages and videos. In the weeks prior to the schools closing, we had weekly or twice weekly updates from the Head explaining the additional hygiene measures being put in place and what the school was doing to prepare. I have been so impressed by everyone at the school and enormously grateful to them all.

midwesteaster · 17/04/2020 22:25

Ours have been great.
I sent a quick thank you note before Easter break.
It must be exhausting for them as well as the dc.

RememberTheSunnierDays · 17/04/2020 23:27

It’s lovely to read such positive feedback for schools.

I’m a mum and my little boy’s school has been outstanding. The head teacher writes to the children each week via the parent communication app letting them know he and their teachers are missing them and enjoying seeing how much they’ve been up to (we have an app where you can upload pictures to the teacher with comments and teachers also add activities each week/respond to your upload). It is always reiterated that they will be back at school when it is safe to do so and in the meantime to keep practising their good hygiene, stay home and not play with their friends. We have also been given login details for other activities on various sites and there is an expectation to “try their best”, but with a realisation that this is a challenging/strange time so nothing too formal at all. My son is in Reception so he is learning mainly through play, but older children have deadline dates to return work in for their teachers via some other app.

I’m really impressed with the approach taken and the sensitivity in which the school have (and continue) to manage the situation. I dropped an email over to the school office before Easter with my comments and wishing them well.

Thank you for this thread! It’s so lovely to read all of the positive comments. Just taking the time to say thank you will mean the world to your child’s school 🌈
