Just wondering really?
Whether we should be worried? In ITU for a few days, then shuttled off to Chequers,

@PigletJohn, my understanding of him sitting up in bed chatting to nurses etc., was when he was back on the ward, so Friday and Saturday, before he was discharged on Sunday.
He wouldn't go from ITU straight home!
I really believe he was extremely ill, and it could have gone either way whilst he was in ITU from Monday-Thursday.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 20/04/2020 08:04

I hope he has a quick and full recovery, but I really don't think he should be allowed to return as PM after those gobsmacking revelations about his incredible laziness.

Humina · 20/04/2020 08:11

Do we think he will take paternity leave too?

jasjas1973 · 20/04/2020 08:41

Why do you believe that?
He didn't need any of the capabilities of an ICU bed, he was given oxygen therapy exactly the same as can be given on a ward or at home, he went there as a precaution because he is PM.

His speech after his release, was delivered in clear and well spoken tones, no coughing, no shortage of breath.

I would have loved to have been able to that just 2 weeks after first going down with flu like illness in January.

sm40 · 20/04/2020 08:46

Not read the thread just the last few comments. Having been in icu for a week, not on a ventilator and then discharged home, this is all plausible. I was told I was the sickest person in the hospital (this was pre covid) but pulled through as I was young and fit.
However it knocks you, you are exhausted. I could not walk anywhere for a week. I needed a daily nap and bed by 9. Any activity wore me out. Definitely couldn't run a country, but I could still talk to people. Everyone commented how well I looked considering.

SophieB100 · 20/04/2020 10:01

@jasjas1973
ICU isn't all about ventilators. It is about oxygen management which includes CPap. Not all CPap is done on wards, some is in ICU. I mentioned that because he was PM he was in ICU earlier, perhaps you missed that bit of my post.
Another crucial role of ICU is the nursing: he had 1-1 nursing for 48 hours.

It is completely wrong to say that the care is needed could have been administered at home.

SophieB100 · 20/04/2020 10:02

he needed

Womenwotlunch · 20/04/2020 11:34

I don’t know why anyone is shocked by Boris’ laziness.
He was a lazy London Mayor
He was a lazy Foreign Secretary
He is a very lazy Prime Minister.

The fact that he was ill has been his ‘saving grace’ because it means that he has not been made accountable for being a lazy and inept PM

FliesandPies · 20/04/2020 23:57

Good article by Polly Toynbee - wrong man, wrong place, wrong time

MrsFogi · 21/04/2020 10:14

Just when we needed Theresa May we had Boris - she would have worked her socks off (in a non glamorous/somewhat gauche way) Jan-March to prep for the arrival of this pandemic.

Porcupineinwaiting · 21/04/2020 11:38

I can guarantee you that if we'd had TM "working her socks off" she'd have been under constant attack from BoJo and the EWG the whole time for not centering Brexit.

NeedToKnow101 · 21/04/2020 17:07

TM has diabetes though so very high risk. Could have worked from home I suppose.

YogaLite · 21/04/2020 17:19

I am sure TM is now glad to be out of the job and I am happy for her.

Aragog · 21/04/2020 18:59

All the "he's not that bad" reports

To be fair the Government didn't say that once he was taken into hospital. Some of the tabloids might have and a fair few MNetters did too, but they weren't actually in the know about his condition.

sunshinesupermum · 21/04/2020 19:02

DP became ill with the virus on March 16. His symptoms finally went after more than three weeks. Unlike Boris he didn't need hospital treatment thankfully but I can tell you than the fatigue that accompanies the illness is still apparent and even after a short walk DP has to have a nap. So perhaps we aren't seeing Boris because he is still recovering?

Polly02 · 21/04/2020 20:07

I’m sure we aren’t seeing Boris because he’s exhausted and still recovering. Will be for a long time.

We need a new PM. In these circumstances a recuperating PM is slowing decisions down and going to make this worse. It’s the last thing we need.

Gfplux · 22/04/2020 08:03

A non functioning PM or one that is frightened to speak to the people is a danger to the Nation.

x2boys · 22/04/2020 08:25

There's a big difference between self isolating.for seven days begrudge symptoms and being in ICU.@Goatymcgoaty and no.NHS staff member would be pressured to.return to work seven days after being in ICU and if they were I would suggest they contact their union regarding bullying and harassment .

x2boys · 22/04/2020 08:27

With symptoms,*

Gfplux · 22/04/2020 11:51

In a time of Crisis a country needs a strong leader not an absent one.

Porcupineinwaiting · 22/04/2020 12:20

I don't think we need a "strong" leader. We need one who is prepared to listen to the experts, sift through a lot of information and make tough decisions without prioritising their long term political career. One who cares. One who is not afraid to admit to past mistakes and change direction if needed.

FliesandPies · 22/04/2020 15:06

He should resign - he's got enough excuse. The man's useless currently and will be useless for Brexit negotiations. Not to mention the Mayoral scandal which will have to be addressed at some point.

The tory party are shit enough under normal circumstances but Boris has been a disaster and they know it. Get rid and he can take that scumbag Cummings with him.
