Balance of home schooling and work?

How do you balance work and kids schooling?

We have both parents working mainly at home (I'm in 1 or 2 days a week in work). We can be fairly flexible with hours.
We have a year 1 and nursery child.
I've just been sent a learning grid for my nursery child for the next term and expected to upload at least 1 activity each day. My year 1 has a topic grid and then individual subject plans . Shes expected to upload an English, Maths and at least 2 other activities a day, as well as complete the topic work.
How?

I don't (Reception and Year 1 children here, single parent). Our school also expects a couple of pieces of work from every child daily, and in general the approach seems very similar to your school (with topics and learning grid).

Do what you can when you can. Expected to versus what you can manage at this time is two different things. I panicked so much at the start with the amount of work my son got through but we plod through it when we can. Try not to stress

Very simple I'm not doing it. My dd school has put stuff on their website that we need to print which we cant. We don't have her books or work stuff home.

The reality is my job pays to keep a roof over our head and food on the table so I am doing the best I can. I wouldn't commit to that to be honest and would be emailing the school that the work will be spread over a week and will be uploaded when available the nursery I wouldnt be uploading anything at all.

So its lots of arts and crafts building lego and reading every night. Playing games for counting etc. Shes 6.

My oldest is last year of school and is working independently to her own schedule. I'm not making her get up and work school hours. She is getting it done over the day.

I tried to structure the day like a school day week 1 & 2 plus work it was hell and upset her no end. So now I'm not. The most important thing for me is we all keep well and the house is as stress free as possible.

Honestly, that sounds ridiculous. Mine are roughly the same ages (in nursery and then in year 2). I do about 1-2 hours of school work with my year 1 a day (or dh does, depending on whose day it is). I might send the teachers an email once a week, but not always. They have an online portal where the kids can write to each other or to their teachers, we do that about once a week. My one in nursery is pretty much watching tv and snacking and digging in the garden. We read or colour when we have time, but not necessarily every day. Dh and I each work 2-4 days a week depending on who is most busy and the other one does the dc and keeps an eye on emails. I honestly could not be bothered to be uploading school work for teachers. They're all so little yet. They need to be learning, but they aren't revising for GCSEs so really it doesn't matter. Our school has posted some activities we could do, but I've just made up my own. My impression is that we are doing more than anyone else in the class is!

Oh good your responses have helped! I could feel the stress rising already. Just got another email to say the weekly class text, phonics activities and comprehension questions will be uploaded each monday too!! Shes 6!

I didnt do any of the work sent the first 2 weeks- we read, maths online games etc but didnt upload anything. The class teacher rang me to basically tell me off!

Tell you off?

When she rings again just say you wont be able to commit to that happy for her to put a note on her file and you will work through the work as and when it is possible. I would spell it out clearly it's not sustainable with also working from home to adhere to her deadlines but will use the work as a guide and then I would follow up by email.
