I know this has been done 1000 times but my search function isn't working.

With the extended lockdown and daily numbers, when do you think the schools are likely to go back.
I believe lockdown won't end anytime soon but just wondering if anyone thinks schools opening will have changed?

I’m still hopeful for early June, so straight after May half term so we can have term 6 back at school and children can finish the year properly.

PumpkinP · 17/04/2020 12:08

It’s done daily 😂
No one knows. I really hope it’s before September personally.

Everyexitisanentrance · 17/04/2020 12:09

Schools have only been closed for a week plus the Easter Holidays - potentially two weeks plus Easter holidays. Some posters have made it sound like forever. There is likely to be a staged return in accordance to government and DfE rules starting just before half term with areas with low infection rates starting first

Aragog · 17/04/2020 12:11

No one knows when schools will open to all children. Schools are still open - but only to limited numbers of children. I went into school today - it felt eerily quiet with just a handful of children and staff working.

But as for whole school opening - Only the Government can decide.

Its debated on MN pretty much daily and all people can post are what they think might happen, but its all guess work.

I can't see it being before half term. To be honest, I am not convinced it'll open properly at all before September personally.

I can't see how schools, especially primary, can happen whilst ever we need to have social distancing. We can fit up to 8 children in our biggest classrooms right now.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 17/04/2020 12:12

Yes I know it is done daily but they're not decreasing.

I meant more specifically the extended 3 weeks.
We knew that would happen and I think it will be extended further.

I'm just thinking out loud really. I would like them to go back soon for their mental health more than anything but I believe it will be September.
Then again I'm a pessimistic person so was hoping to hear more opinions.

Personally I feel the fact that the BBC starts 14 wk programme of lessons next week is telling. Also looking at other countries like Spain suggests not for some weeks.

I would imagine that to start with certain regions may go back. And maybe key worker children will go full time even if their parents are not full time or only one is, this wouldn’t greatly increase risk of transmission.

Lelivre · 17/04/2020 12:18

My kids are preferring to be schooled at home but we do have a garden and nearby walks. Also they are connected online with their friends.

Everyexitisanentrance · 17/04/2020 12:19

It will have made life difficult for bullies

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/04/2020 12:22

I'm hoping after May half term. I'm not a key worker and can't work from home, I really need to get back to work by then especially if furlough ends on 31st May.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 17/04/2020 12:23

I don't think mine mind not going to school and we are doing well at home.
I think they're just bored and miss everyone.

I'm a key worker but I've been unable to use the school provisions as my hours don't fit in with school opening.
Work are too busy to allow me to drop to part time or flex and my parents usually help with pick up etc.
So dh( also a key worker) and I have juggled shifts so one of us is always at home.
Just a quick handover at the front door usually.

I didn't even know the BBC had done the 14 week lessons.

Yes I do still believe September then.

We are in lockdown now until 8th May at least. Spain and Italy who we are supposedly 3-4 weeks behind are changing restrictions but not opening schools- Spain have said today they will probably not be back until September. We have to get through the peak and the plateau before the rates drop and then the measures will be changed- that could take a long time

PlanDeRaccordement · 17/04/2020 12:26

I don’t know, but I think that the May 11th will be the end of French lockdown. After that, I think there will be a phased return over a few weeks. I do think large gatherings, festivals and sports events will be banned all summer though.
No economy can take lockdown for several months. A government can only borrow so much money to help people financially. With every country having the same problem, who is there to left borrow from? They’ll need people back at work soon, which means schools will have to reopen.

Every freaking day with this same thread!! No one could possibly bloody know!

glueandstick · 17/04/2020 12:28

Hong Kong still isn’t back... Make of that what you will.

irwellmummy · 17/04/2020 12:31

Even if they do open before September it’s unlikely to be normal school hours with attendance being Mon-Fri. There just isn’t the capacity to do any form of social distancing with the numbers of children we have in the classes.
I teach a school nursery class of 2-4 year olds and there are 56 children attending each morning/afternoon and we have upwards of 6 staff. There is just one room and the outdoor area, can’t see how that will be allowed.

UndertheCedartree · 17/04/2020 12:33

I said on a previous thread that the BBC putting on loads more provision from the 20th April suggests schools won't be open fully for some time.

enjoyingSun · 17/04/2020 12:38

I didn't even know the BBC had done the 14 week lessons.

Starts 20 April

I have heard this week that September is the aim for ‘normal’ school to recommence.

Schools are hoping to open to more groups of children sooner (after May half term - so start of June.)

Initially for instance opening to more key workers children e.g. Dentists and SEN pupils etc.

It’ll be a phased reopening over 7 weeks leading up to the summer holiday. Parents can choose not to send their children if they wish.

This is not definitive...but it’s what is currently forming part of discussions.
So, as a parent of a non-SEN pupils and with a key worker husband, I expect my son to be able to go to school. However I may choose to delay his return until September.

My brother has a child who is again not SEN. His wife is not working? She’s a SAHM. I don’t expect his child to be invited back to school until later, possibly September.

This may also vary slightly area to area, depending on numbers and logistics.

CinderellasSecrets · 17/04/2020 12:45

I hope its before september but truthfully I highly doubt it. My eldest has got her school place offer for reception and i just feel deflated by it all because I just cant see a light at the end of the tunnel right now, i doubt she'll even be going in September.

midgebabe · 17/04/2020 12:47

Can I ask MNHQ for a new corona schools topic?

WanderingMilly · 17/04/2020 12:52

I've said this before on umpteen threads but I'll say it again...
Sadly I think schools will be back in June. I know people need to get to work and are finding it hard with the children at home but it really, really isn't a good idea. I hope I'm wrong; I would prefer September myself. Much better, much safer for everyone.

Apple40 · 17/04/2020 13:23

I won’t be sending my kids into school anytime soon to be mixing with the kids of the doctors , nurses front line staff who will still be dealing with Ill people on a daily bases. The idea terrifies them, we are quite happy home schooling and will continue to do so. Personally I really can’t see schools back until July or September there is no way you could make kids social distance with the numbers of kids in schools and there natural want to play with each other. They have only really had 2 weeks off school as the other two week has been the Easter holidays,my hey would not have canceled all exams just for 2 -4 week break

Everyexitisanentrance · 17/04/2020 14:05

The repetition of threads will kill MN chat
