I’m in the shielded group and currently on furlough, if lockdown ends in 3 wks ...

Should I try and return to work but ask for clear boundaries? Almost impossible where I work.

I can’t work from home.

I’m worried I won’t have a job to go back to if I take 12 wks off, although atm no one knows how long lockdown will go on for.

Anyone shielding who feels the same?

I feel that if I’m going to get it wouldn’t it be better once the peak is over (hopefully before winter) to get it during the summer months?

I just don’t know how my employer will react once he knows I’m supposed to stay away for 12 wks. Will we get another letter after this one requesting the same Confused

I just don’t know what to do. Does our shielding letter give us any rights if we were made redundant?

Sorry, I’m waffling. Obviously got a lot of time on my hands to think about this atm Grin

I'm in the same situation as you and feel rather worried about my position once lockdown ends.
Until a vaccine is available, we're pretty much vulnerable, although if I haven't had it already I fancy my chances more in the summer.
Bumping for you in the hope someone has some answers.

Thank you @NewChapter11, I thought there would be more of us in this situation. I just don’t know what to do.

At least there is another 3 weeks to think about it.

Hope you have a good outcome too.

@SweetMarmalade I had the letter about shielding but am able to work from home. The letter does say from what I remember to show this letter to your employer. I don’t think they can do anything but support you when you have had such a letter. Where I work if someone has the shielding letter but cannot work from home they would either be furloughed for the full 12 weeks or paid company sick pay. It’s not your fault you have had the letter and you have been asked to do this by the government so your employer needs to accept that.

Same and can't work from home. I also haven't had my letter but my consultant is happy to write one for work so I'm going to ask about that on my phone appointment which is early May

It’s so hard isn’t it. Dp has been told (although not officially yet, just from conversations with his immediate Manager) that he will probably be told to stay off because I’m shielding! That’s the difference between his company and mine though!

His has HR, a union etc, mine, not!

if you are shielding that's for 12 weeks isn't it of which only 3 have passed so far, so you'll have to be off, furloughed or working from home in some way. You can't go to a workplace. I'd let your employer know now of your official shielding status so they can plan
