Desperately sad. Channel 4 News covering this tonight, apparently.

A 28yo nurse, presumably working in a hospital, or with patients anyway, while heavily pregnant, fell ill and as her condition deteriorated the baby was delivered by Caesarean. The mother seemed to be improving but then took a turn for the worse and died shortly afterwards. I hope her baby girl is OK.

I can't think of any words suitable for this at all. Her poor partner, friends and family.

ofwarren · 15/04/2020 15:45

Omg, this is dreadful.
Poor, poor woman.

Troels · 15/04/2020 15:46

Oh god poor woman, poor family. So so sad.

DonPablo · 15/04/2020 15:48

It's a worst nightmare. I hope the baby and his/her family are getting lots of support. How tragic.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/04/2020 15:49

Heartbreaking.

Graphista · 15/04/2020 15:50

Desperately sad news for that poor family and all who loved her.

Maemar · 15/04/2020 15:52

Devasting. There are no sufficient words.

BumpkinSpiceBatty · 15/04/2020 15:53

This is so sad. No words seem adequate.

Mrhodgeymaheg · 15/04/2020 15:56

Very, very sad. I'm surprised that this woman was working as a nurse while heavily pregnant during this, unless she contracted the illness before the measures were introduced. If that isn't the case, I think it is awful she was forced into a situation where this happened.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/04/2020 15:58

So many have lost loved ones but this has really hit me particularly hard. This should have been a joyous time for her and her family. I wonder if the family have even been able to see the baby.

If this is the same woman, she was featured on BBC video trying to persuade people to stay at home, while she was on CPAP. Her eyes were haunting, and she did not look with it at all...... her poor family. I think that any NHS Nurse and Medic that dies of CV-19 should be given DIS of 10 x Salary by the Government. While this doesn't even come close to making right the loss of a mother/father/sister/brother etc. at least it will provide a little bit of financial security for the remaining family.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 15/04/2020 16:02

If that isn't the case, I think it is awful she was forced into a situation where this happened.
You don't know that she was forced into any situation where this happened.

anothernotherone · 15/04/2020 16:04

Poor woman, poor family Sad

Under normal circumstances she could easily have still been working at say 32 or even 26 weeks and an emergency caesarean might well be carried out at preterm gestation if the mother appeared to be about to die Sad. I don't know whether all pregnant nurses are furloughed are they? They should be ideally obviously but so many things aren't as they should be.

Gingernaut · 15/04/2020 16:04

There are so many tragic stories, it's hard to comprehend it all.

It doesn’t actually state that she was working, just that she is a nurse and was heavily pregnant. She may have been on maternity leave already or at home and contracted it somewhere else. Whatever the reason it’s desperately sad, poor poor family x

PrivateD00r · 15/04/2020 16:13

Cannot stop crying after reading this Sad Thinking of her family, especially her baby Sad

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/04/2020 16:13

Oh my, how awful. Terribly sad. I hope the baby will survive.

Lordfrontpaw · 15/04/2020 16:15

Heartbreaking. But the baby is all ok? I saw a news story of a tiny baby with CV-19 and I can't imagine that they could ventilate such a small child if needed.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 15/04/2020 16:18

This is so sad. So dreadful. I cannot imagine what this family are going through.

My step daughter is due in the summer. She has been working from home. She is a key worker. I cannot possibly bear the thought of how this poor family will go forward.

Herd immunity. Right.

Inkpaperstars · 15/04/2020 16:19

There was a report recently that a patient with covid had died in labour at Whittington Hospital in North London. I think they were able to save the baby in that case also. So so sorry to read of these cases and hoping the little ones will be safe.

Gammeldragz · 15/04/2020 16:19

Of course they can ventilate tiny babies, they do so in SCBU. Teeny tiny Airways though...

Imapotato · 15/04/2020 16:20

This is just heart breaking. That poor family.

Alsohuman · 15/04/2020 16:21

Heartbreaking.

Keepdistance · 15/04/2020 16:23

Awful.
Fingers crossed for the baby.

I think pregant people are only currently vulnerable. They may need to review that.

It's true that it's so contagious you could easily catch just at an antenatal appt or birth etc. But they think severity depends on amount initially exposed to so working in a hospital (where even if you arent on a covid ward most patients wont be confirmed until they are admitted so it's likely all over many hospitals)

Keepdistance · 15/04/2020 16:31

That poor 14yo too. Her mum was only 40! And dad 39 in hospital still. Even the 14yo was in hospital. It said even the Aunt in Bristol has symptoms too. Hoping the rest of the girls family recover.
